How about we TEACH them well to begin with. That way, it dosn't matter what color you use to grade with, because all the answers should be RIGHT!! That or just change out the pens for a stamp that says,"YOU SUCK THIS MUCH" with a grade next to it. I don't care what color the stamp is.

In case you were wondering, I am thinking of running for the School Board :D

That reminds me of a Page2 article from ESPN.

Is this what you want, wussies?

We are one step closer toward raising a generation of paste-devouring Ralph Wiggums.

If you thought some schools went overboard when they banned dodge ball last year, consider this: A Santa Monica elementary school principal recently banned tag, saying the game can only be played under the strict supervision of physical education teachers and not at all during the lunch hour recess. That's due to: one, the risk of injury; and two, a "self-esteem issue," because whoever is "it" could be considered a "victim."

Rest of the article here: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/caple/020626.html

No red ink? NO dodgeball? NO TAG?

Gee, I wonder what those bleeding heart Libs would think of a good ole game of "Smear the Queer"?
Now, in that game you really did feel like a victim. LOL

About 5 years ago (when I was in college I thought I wanted to be a high school teacher) So I took this class it was basically "how to be a teacher" We were encouraged to adopte a new grading style that did not point out the bad the kids did on test and papers but pointed out the good they did.

So instead of red marks on there paper (which as the article stats is "Too Intimadiating") we would use black or blue ink and describe how well they did.

Isn't that sweet....god I think I have cool-aid in my viens :PUKE:

My daughter has been a music teacher now for over 10 years in elementary and middle schools in NJ and has stories about this crap that you won't believe. This past summer, as part of her continuing development as a teacher (she has both a double bachelors and a masters) she had to take a course in dealing with how to work with unruly students. The atmosphere was one of how to be nice, be acccomodating, etc. As in most of these touchy feely courses they all sit around a conference table, introduce themselves to each other and share their own philosophy of how to resolve these problems prior to the start of the program. When it came to her philosophy of how to deal with unruly students she calmly said, " I follow my dad's philosophy who first of all told us that if we misbehaved in school he would break both our legs and secondly that he sees no value in negotiating with terrorists".

She got an A in the course and the board of education will reimburse her for the $900.00 she had to lay out to learn how to get along with others. I bet, just to make a point, she will use a wide, red, indelible magic marker. She resembles her Mom a lot.:D

"A mix of red and blue, the color purple embodies red's sense of authority but also blue's association with serenity, making it a less negative and more constructive color for correcting student papers, color psychologists said. Purple calls attention to itself without being too aggressive. And because the color is linked to creativity and royalty, it is also more encouraging to students.

Great, now we have "Queer Eye for the School Kids". All the more reason to support your local parochial school. They may not have knuckle-rapping nuns anymore, but you don't see this kind of form over function crap.

Air, you had me rolling with the 'You Suck This Much' stamp idea. :D

Speeking of "Eye", anybody else notice how many programs feature gays on television nowadays? Familiarity breeds acceptance?

They have something even more vile than the teletubbies, and thats Oomba-something or other.

I give my wife all kinds of grief over her letting the little one watch Barney, so I have to balance it out with high-speed stuff from the History Channel and Discovery. Last night me and the boy were watching the Best Ranger Competition on OLN.

Anybody seen Roycroft?

I was waiting for that; should have known it would be NDD calling me out ! LOL !

I couldn't help but notice, NDD, that you are quoting an article in the Boston Globe - the same state that elected sKerry, and now hyping articles like this. Jeesh !

I use red ink.

And might I add one thought here....if anyone on this board is going to take a shot at ANY education system, might I suggest you use spellcheck before you post on this thread ?! Just a little pet peeve of mine..........

Guy-

I believe it is now official... the only version of our favorite game that is still allowed by the USA Liberal political correctness mob is the:

"Kill the American citizen". That is the only one that they would never protest because it might hurt the enemy or terrorists feelings.

My wife had to switch from red to purple a couple of years ago. I thought (and still do) that the whole concept was just stupid. Hello, it's not the color that makes kids cry, it's the big fat 'minus ten' at the top of the paper that sends little Johnny to pieces, becuase he knows that his drunkard of a dad is going to beat his ass for it. That is, of course, assuming that the kid actually has a dad at home.
My wife is now in her fourth year of teaching 2nd grade, and she's just about had it with the educational system. More and more work keeps getting piled onto the teachers. With that work comes more blame for children being illiterate miscreants. I dare say that if one half of the parents out there actually gave a damn about their kids, the educational system would improve by leaps and bounds, because teachers would be able to teach and not have to raise children for their damned parents.
I don't know how it is in other places, but here, teachers are now forced to teach ESE and ESOL students, rather than having them sent to specialized teachers. My wife has three non-English speaking students, as well as a couple of kids that should be in ESE, for their own benefit. I don't know who came up with the idea of making teachers handle 'special' students, but he or she needs an ass punch and a pink slip. A great deal of the added stress has been brought on by NCLB. I can't believe that President Bush thought that program would accomplish anything good.

Some eggheads have done some research on the topic of ink color and evaluation since this thread was started.

Information on Rutchick is available here (http://www.csun.edu/csbs/departments/psychology/faculty/rutchick.html), and on Slepian is there (http://ambadylab.stanford.edu/slepian.html).

So, they want teachers to let the kids now how ignorant are, but with a soft touch...
Bovine fecal matter!!! If you're a turnip, you're turnip. No reason to sugar coat it. What the hell is wrong with people and this touchy feely new era.
AAAAARGHGH!!! How about a nice, flashy shade of pink instead. Let's turn school into some sort of barbie academy.:mad:
