Just got word that SGM Russ Krajicek died. He was my team sergeant in Berlin and one of the most resourceful leaders I've ever worked for. He was a model NCO and had a sense of humor that couldn't be touched. He led us through some tough times and made some history that will probably never be written.
He was originally in 1st Group in the 60s and went to Vietnam when it was a TDY trip. He spent a major part of his career in 10th Group and returned to 1st Group as a company sergeant major. That must have been one heck of a company.
On our team every January we'd update our non-technical communications folders. His standards were beyond what OGA required for that stuff. He was uncompromising and it payed off in ways that will never be published.
When new leadership came into the unit he was replaced as team sergeant but asked to remain on the team as the senior radio operator. He was that kind of guy. He was never less than professional. I wouldn't have been half the soldier I was if it hadn't been for him.
