There might be one thing worse than a crack house in your neighborhood:

This should have the EOD types excited ;)

"......................... The home has been declared a public nuisance and therefore the county does not have to reimburse the owners, who were renting the house to Jakubec........................."

I guess there is no appeal on that one. Wonder how the insurance claim will go over?

While I understand why they need to do it the owner is going to take it in she shorts.

Well, better the she shorts than the he shorts. :D

Officials are wondering where he got the materials?

Mexico's just down the road from Escondido.

The authorities are going to shut down Interstate 15 for a day?

That alone will cause another disaster.

Apparently, they can't remove the materials from the house safely, so they're going to blow it up in place. I kid you not:

Now authorities face the risky task of getting rid of the explosives. The property is so dangerous and volatile that that they have no choice but to burn the home to the ground this week in a highly controlled operation involving dozens of firefighters, scientists and hazardous material and pollution experts.

Experts also have mapped how far the plume will travel and predict it will not go beyond Interstate 15. They calculate that if there is an explosion, it would probably throw the debris only about 60 feet.

"It certainly would not be a detonation that would level a neighborhood," Newman said.

Just get that guy from the "Hurt Locker." He appears to have lost all sense of self preservation. ;)

Seriously though, I really only posted this because they plan to blow it up?!? Unbelievable. I hope some of those guys on the bomb squad are some EOD Senior CPO's. I think I would only trust their (or some other EOD senior NCO's) judgement on this one.

They are not sure what is in there or how much but they assure the public it will not level the neighorhood. Yea right. They HOPE it will not level the place for all they know it could have a nuclear warhead in there waiting to go off.

Not really sure how they can go about it with this type of approach. If there IS something hidden look out! Depending on the state of HME's it can cause either toxic smoke or big booms!

I once had my platoon sergeant say, when confronted with confusion as to the right charge and deflection on a 4.2 inch mortar, "Well, we'll fire one round and see what happens."

Usually a very bad idea.

"Do I anticipate something going wrong? No. But even in a controlled burn, things occasionally go wrong." (but that obviously won't happen because I really hope it doesn't. See? got it covered.")
Sounds like fun.
