I was at a civilian federal law enforcement course last week and was told that reserve SF units had looked for Army CID agents to come on deployments. Is there any truth to this and if so for what purpose? If the response would violate forum rules please PM me and I can provide necessary ID.

Not everybody who goes overseas to train people is an action guy.

Lots and lots of tech types, supply and admin troops go overseas to train host nation soldiers.

Some of those can be stand alone deployments - others can revolve around an SF element.

Also your tidbit is worthless without knowing the level of attachment. Large SF units travel with a whole host of attachments. If it was an FOB - heck that's like a small town of regular Army folks of all types.

So if it was a large reserve deployment and they needed a great number of job sets of course they would be asking around for available folks.

Bet they were hunting for a few cooks also.

I was fingerprinted by the CID in DaNang for attempted murder of the Bn XO.

The fact that he was still alive was a clue that it wasn't me. :D

I was arrested by the CID at Utapao RTAFB after only being in country for 6 hours. The arrest wasn't for taking my clothes off in the NCO Club but for going swimming after curfew on the beach... I blame the 5 liters of Singha I drank on the bus ride from BKK to Utapao.

There was also some talk about bringing me back to Thailand to face charges for a problem that Crazy Ed the Medic had with me. Never heard anymore about it, though.

October 1970, highway 1, just North of Cu Chi,, Radar Speed Trap,, doing 75 in a 35 zone, two days after my windshield was shoot out by sniper while driving to Bien Hoa AB to pick up T-bones & Lobster for the G-Mess.

So,, What you looking at Leroy,, We all get to play REMF's at one point or another...

And YES,, as the G-Mess OIC, I personally sampled all mess items to guarantee they were fresh & tender.. In this instance, I invited the CID Co CO to the sampling,,

No Problemo... :D:D:D

CID Agents showed up in Long Hai at B-36 looking for a stolen Jeep. It seems that one of the Saigon MP Battalion Jeeps had been stolen and somebody told the MPs that it was two "Green Berets" had taken it.

It was us alright, but we had taken it to "Big John's Casino" in Bien Hoa and had all of the identifiable parts (Hood, windshield, etc.) swapped with other Jeeps and this Jeep painted black with the "Hands across the Sea" logo of USAID.

The CID couldn't locate their "Stolen Jeep" and were forced to leave camp!

Back in my MP days we didn't think much of CID. Mimimum rank required for entry was Sp4, plus a huge desire to get rid of the white hat. USAF OSI was much more impressive.

One day in Oki, when I was the PMO law enforcement officer, they were hoping to bust me for receiving drugs in the mail because the doggie had alerted on a package with my name on it. It was a can of pipe tobacco.

And, in another time and place I went eyeball-to-eyeball with the CID CO because they were messing with one of the troops in my company and I took extreme exception to their conduct. Being prudent, I asked my Bn Cmdr to impartially witness our meeting, just in case I was the one to get arrested.

As with all else, in your experiences with CID, YMMV.
