I have been debating on if I should post this. This has been a hard week. On Sunday my family lost my brother, I lost my mentor. My brother was a great man, he inspired me to be in the military as he was a Marine Lt. Col. He is the one that pushed me. He always told me what I needed to hear, never what I wanted to hear. It was tuff love lol but made me better for it. He was actively involved with my recruiter and was supportive of me going in the 18x program (even though he told me I had no idea what I was getting into).

I am still in a bit of shock but it really hit hard when I was handed his dog tags he was wearing when he passed away. My brother died in an motorcycle accident. I still can't believe it. He had three tours flying the CH-46 and was in TTU of the V22.

We are setting up a trust fund for his two kids. I just...can't express. Please pray for my sister (his wife) and the rest of my family. Thank you.*

ps I have decided not to release his name on this site yet.

I am so very sorry for your loss, my sincere condolences to your family. :( May your memories sustain you.

I've often (too often) found comfort in reading this when losing a loved one...

An Irish Funeral Prayer

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

Derived from a sermon written by Henry Scott Holland and delivered it in St. Paul's on 15 May 1910, at which time the body of King Edward VII was lying in state at Westminster (versions of this sermon have been used at many Irish funerals over the years).
