On 10 Nov 2010 I pinned my first set of Airborne wings (earned 1981) on my son at his Airborne graduation.

Rather than having a mass pinning, the school had all former Airborne Soldiers come forward and lined us up. They then called for all 'second and third generation' Airborne Soldiers to come forward and line up in front of us.

We sent a boy and I saw a man standing in front of me.

After the announcement of 'It is against Army regulations to give blood wings', I tacked his (my) wings to his chest. As did all the other former Airborne Soldiers.

He then got the speech about keeping his mouth shut and learning. He's still new.

A great tradition, I'm sure your son was very proud to have his father there in that capacity.
Trivia....blood wings go back to WW2 but they were not associated with pinning.
Legs were jealous of the Paratrooper uniform, bloused boots, Wings ets...so in a bar fight they'd try and rip your wings off your blouse.
Smart Paratroopers would sharpen the wings around the edges to knife edge and the guy trying to pull them off would slice his fingers up....Blood Wings. Got that at the 509th Assoc reunion from a bunch of the WW2 guys...the first deployed ABN unit to England...that's where it originated.

That sounds wonderful. I did not go when my son graduated because they were told to have their gear packed and report straight to the bus for Bragg after the ceremony.
