Was it really a failed attempt? If he indeed attempted to kill himself, it appears to have been successful.

Being that my wife and I have watched this series for several years, we were very surprised last week when his death was announced/memorialized on the show. More surprising, for anyone who has watched this show, is reading the article that he had a wife and kids. He did not seem like the wife and kid kind of person. Not to tarnish his memory for his family but I think his "home issues" are kind of clear now knowing that is was a successful failed suicide attempt.
