FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul Augustine Connolly, 73, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010. The family will receive friends today, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, from 8:30 to 9 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, followed by a Mass at 9 a.m. The burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with full military honors. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine Connolly; a brother, William Jr.; and a sister, Catherine. He was in the 1st Special Forces Group in Okinawa, the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam, and was a member of the Special Forces Training Group, the 6th and 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, the XVIII Airborne Corps C.I.D Command. He retired on Oct. 31, 1976, and received the following medals: Bronze Star Medal with V Device; Combat Infantryman Badge; Vietnam Cross with Gallantry with Palm; Meritorious Service Medal; six Good Conduct Medals; Army Commendation Medal; and Parachute Badge.
