I'm still learning the basics of knifemaking, and I wondered if you might answer this question for me, sir.

I noticed that most of the knives you make these days use pins to hold the handle slabs on. Is this because it's just your preferred method, or is there a more practical reason? Thanks.

Barbarian,
What knives are you looking at?
The overwhelming majority of knives I make have handles that are bolted on. Sometimes I used handle bolts that are tightened and then ground off to look like a heavy pin and sometimes, rarely, I do use just pins.

I was looking at PiterM's Tactical Trout, the big "chopper" you made for The Reaper, and the knife in this thread you posted a while back (which all look gorgeous):

Some of those have hidden bolts. ;)

Go here on the net http://www.buchananblades.com/and try and figure out which knives Thad used bolts or pins on..

Probably not, strongly allergic to Smurf Blue.

Ok, here are my guesses.

Knives with Hidden Bolts:
3/4 Boot Knife
Junior Bear
Big Bear
Wilderness
New York Special
Chute Knife
Boot Knife
Dixon Fighter
Koa Fighter
Fighter
Semi Skinner
Lucarelli's Clip
Gambler's Knife
Trout and Bird
Small Caper

Knives with Pins
Gent's Utility

On the Extended Clip Point I can't tell by the picture if Mr. Buchanan used thong tubes or if he used bolts that were ground down to the threaded barrel.

How did I do? Be harsh if you want:).
