I'm rather disappointed with my Gators. Not that I expect the win everything but Meyer continues to force Brantley into the option and it's not working. Every now and then, he hits a few beautiful passes, then it's back to the option short side, punt.

The knife twists in my chest a little more watching Cam Newton at Auburn.

I'm watching religiously as always, Bill. IMO, your Ducks are the best team in football right now. However, my tide could heal up... beat Auburn... and get them in the national championship game. That would be a perfect situation, IMO. :D

Yeah, it will definitely be good. Those sorts of rival games can always go either way no matter how the rest of the season has played out. I'm not sure if we have tickets this year or not. I'm really just a fan through marriage. My wife's grandfather is an Auburn grad and she has grown up going to games her whole life. They've always had at least 6 season tickets; including two in the posh scholarship seats. The food down there is incredible (and free). Her grandfather passed away just after the season started this year so its likely their last year with the tickets. I think it has been a bittersweet season for her mom and the rest of the family.

As a USC fan, I must say, this weekend is going to be huge for the PAC10. A part of me really wants Oregon to win so the PAC10 is represented in the BCS Championship so I, and the rest of the nation, doesn't have to suffer through a Boise State vs. TCU "boring bowl."

I don't think that there can be a Boise State vs. TCU national championship atleast not with how the polls have been. Boise State has been passed over now 2 weeks in a row for number 1.

Mr. Harsey,

After enduring the "Joe Must Go" talks (again ) and muddling through the Big Ten season as a Penn State fan, I find myself rooting for the Ducks to go all the way. Putting up the offense they have, even after shipping their pre-season Heisman contending QB to the deep south, is inspiring. Maybe 'Bama will right their ship and make this year's championship something to watch. I'd much rather see either of them than a TCU or BSU.

Didn't see the game, but I feared for Michigan State as Iowa always seems to do well against supposedly "good" teams. Agreed. However, the Colley Matrix (one of the computers) still lists them 7th. Keep in mind this is the same computer that places Alabama 13th and Wisconsin 16th yet gives Missouri a #3 slot. Just goes to show that even in a "perfect" system, nothing is perfect.

QB Jake Locker won't play vs. Oregon
Associated Press
Updated: November 1, 2010, 8:24 PM ET

SEATTLE -- As if Washington needed more of a challenge facing No. 1 Oregon, the Huskies will venture into Eugene without their best player.

Quarterback Jake Locker won't play on Saturday, out with a broken rib that started as a cartilage injury and has grown into a full fracture with the punishment the Huskies' QB has taken in recent weeks.

Washington coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday that Locker played last Saturday against Stanford (No. 13 BCS, No. 10 AP) with a hairline rib fracture that started as a cartilage injury suffered against Oregon State. Cleared by physicians to play against the Cardinal, Locker took additional hits that fully cracked the bone.

"[He] took a couple pretty good shots as you guys probably saw that kind of escalated this thing to a whole another level for us," Sarkisian said. "It's unfortunate. I know Jake wants to be out there in the worst way, but this is the right thing to do."

Locker was 7 of 14 passing for 64 yards and two interceptions against the Cardinal and was sacked three times.

He said the injury wasn't taken "lightly."

"It was something that was checked out and making sure nothing changed from week to week. It's something they made sure that I was comfortable with, and my family was comfortable with," Locker said. "It was getting better. It was sore, but that's part of football."

Locker's setback completed a miserable weekend for the Huskies, who appeared inept on offense and overpowered on defense in their 41-0 loss to Stanford.

It also added another stain on Locker's disappointing senior season. Considered a Heisman contender when he announced his return to Washington, Locker has in some areas regressed from a year ago. His completion percentage and yards passing per game are down from a year ago, with only his touchdown-to-interception ratio having improved.

More importantly, the stated goal of the Huskies (3-5, 2-3) of getting to a bowl game for the first time since 2002 is perilously in danger with four games remaining.

"It's not how you would have wanted to draw it up," Locker said. "But I said at the time of my decision, and I'll stick to it now: I don't regret it. I wouldn't do it any different. We still have a lot to play for in this season."

Sarkisian said he hopes Locker will be healthy enough to return on Nov. 18 when Washington hosts UCLA in Locker's final home game. The Huskies close with road games at California and rival Washington State.

As a comparison, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck missed two games during the 2009 season with a broken rib and didn't practice for two weeks while recovering.

With Locker out, redshirt freshman Keith Price will make his first career start in one of the most difficult environments in college football. Price has seen spot action this year, throwing nine passes in the five games. He did throw a touchdown pass in his one attempt in the Huskies' upset of Southern California.

"He's got a real confidence about himself right now, and I think we all saw that in some of the moments that he's been in, especially at USC in a critical juncture of that ball game, stepping up and throwing a touchdown pass," Sarkisian said of Price. "It'll be a great challenge for him, and a great challenge for us."

Fair enough. From what I've seen of him, Locker looks like a solid QB who happens to be going through a rough patch (apparently due to him being broken). Interesting to see how he gets through this year (both physically and mentally) and if he can be productive at the next level. Glad to see PAC-10 schools besides USC putting out decent QBs recently (to include Oregon and Stanford).

I got what you were implying. It would only strengthen Oregon's case by beating a full-strength Locker, being as they have the third-worst strength of schedule of Top 25 teams (behind Nevada and Utah).

Many in the SEC are counting on Auburn, Alabama, and LSU to be the dominate teams in the conference but don't count out the Vols. They are finally settling in Coach Dooleys' offense and defensive strategy. Now I know that the beatdown of Memphis a second rate team isn't much to speak of but the domination of Ole Miss today who was a heavy favorite speaks for itself. General Neyland Finally Comes Home

One of the reasons Lane Kiffin never connected with Tennessee fans is that he never embraced one of the program's greatest traditions -- the reading of General Neyland's Maxims before each game. But when Dooley arrived, he immediately started asking questions about why Neyland didn't have a larger presence on the Tennessee campus, like Bear Bryant has always enjoyed at Alabama. "Study your history," Dooley pointed out earlier this year. "The Bear couldn't beat Neyland. Couldn't do it."

He's right. Neyland's record versus Bryant was 5-0-2, though the Tide faithful are quick to point out that Bryant was at Kentucky then, not Alabama. Tennessee fans respond with Neyland's record versus Bama, which was 12-5-2.

Last Friday, Dooley's wishes were finally fulfilled when Tennessee unveiled a 9-foot, 1,500-pound statue of Neyland, placed so that it will greet the team as it finishes up the tradition "Vol Walk" from the football facility to Neyland Stadium.

To see photos from the unveiling, visit this story from the Knoxville News-Sentinel (http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2010/nov/12/neyland-statue-unveiled-ut/?partner=RSS&partner=RSS).

How big was the moment? It drew a crowd of hundreds, including students between classes and former head coaches and longtime mortal enemies, Majors and Phil Fulmer.

"I know he wasn't actually this big in real life," said Majors, who was part of Neyland's final recruiting class. "But it sure felt like it."

The only time I've gotten to see Tennessee live was when they faced off against my Nittany Lions in the 2007 Outback Bowl. I have to say, tailgating has a different definition once you cross the Mason-Dixon line. Instead of brats and beer, all I saw was rows of full-out spreads and mixed drinks. And while we were all dressed in PSU-themed sweatshirts and tees, Tennessee fans were dressed like they were about to attend Sunday mass (if one would attend mass in blaze orange). They were some of the nicest (and well-behaved) people I've gotten to tailgate with. It made it tough to root against them come game time. Almost.

Yes, tailgating here in the south is a way of life. I personally have bought new orange or red pants before season openers, new shirts, etc. However, my own dressing up for the game doesn't compare to the frat boys and sorority girls. I'm pretty sure the girls seem to need a new dress for each game. Its an event, to be certain.

I am not an ole miss fan, but I must declare ... there is NO better place to tailgate. I refer to that little campus as the land of beautiful southern women. The young men and ladies all dress cocktail for the the games. The adults dress as well and have tents, full spreads, full bars, and often times silver out on the tables for use. It is an amazing spectacle. LSU, AL, and TN are also great places to watch a game. All SEC west fans seem to be hospitable except your occasional LSU night game. If you are the visitor and dressed in school colors... watch out. :D

It was an awesome sight as Landry Jones kicked it, and a couple of his temmates redeemed themselves!

There is great sadness in Tuscaloosa. Preseason hype collided with reality several times this season and the Tide is now ranked 16th instead of #1.

We'll probably still get to a bowl but it probably will be the Broccoli Bowl or something similar.

Buffalobob,

Really not sure what happened with Alabama. Even after their first loss, I viewed them as one of the top two teams in the nation and hoped for an Oregon-Alabama National Championship.

Thought this might cheer up some of you suffering from BCS blues. The mental image alone made me laugh. The man's got a sense of humor, and it's impressive to see a major university president show remorse for something they've said. Thought about putting it in Quote of the Day, but felt it was better served here.

Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee says in the future, he will stick to running the university and leave comments about college football to the experts.

"What do I know about college football? I look like Orville Redenbacher. I have no business talking about college football," he said Wednesday, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Lots of cheap shots and bad calls. The officials should be flogged.

Agreed,

What a great game though.......I really thought NC blew it with their clock management there in the end. GO HEELS....unless you're playing DUKE!!!!

Agree with the bad calls, but a well-played game for the most part, and a good pairing of two teams many thought shouldn't be in bowls. For a freshman, Bray looks like he has a bright future ahead of him leading Tennessee.

Couldn't help but cringe when this happened, though.

Great win!

I just hope next year they keep from getting so far ahead of themselves, although I bit on it too. We should have never lost the games we did.
