WILLIAMSTON – CSM (Ret.) Reginald Turner Manning passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 10 am the Lower Cape Fear Hospice of Wilmington, NC.
Born May 13, 1936 in Williamston, NC, he was the son of the late William Clyde and Bettie Rose Taylor Manning. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Inabinett. He graduated from Williamston High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Methodist College. After a brief stint in the U.S. Army in 1955, he returned in 1962 to become a 30-year career veteran. He served one tour in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces Group and was a Green Beret for 24 years of his service. Following retirement, he went to work as a Computer Systems Analyst with Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia and then joined their School of Nursing as a member of the faculty. CSM Manning’s life after employment was divided among his family, fishing, golfing, bird-watching and deporting squirrels to the other side of the Roanoke River. His dry wit and sense of humor will be sorely missed along with his extraordinary ability to weave the finest of tales.
Surviving is his wife, Patricia K. Manning; 3 children, Daughter, Melanie Holshouser and Husband, David, of Suffolk, VA; Son, Reginald Manning, Junior and Wife, Tiffany, of Myrtle Beach, SC; Daughter Patti Riddle and Husband, Christian, of Wilmington; Four Granddaughters, Emily Frances and Laura Anne Holshouser of Suffolk, Ashlyn Taylor and Addison Turner Manning of Myrtle Beach; One Grandson, Finnegan Manning Riddle of Wilmington; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and comrades.
His family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home located at 414 N. Haughton St from 6 until 8 pm on Wednesday, October 6, 2010.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 10 am at the Church of the Advent Episcopal Church in Williamston. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
