The movie is based on a group of Russian recruits who go on together to serve in the same unit in Afghanistan. I sure hope the Soviets were more organized and sharper than what this movie implied. When they fought the Muj. The Mujahideen squad leaders were dressed differently and were much more brutal fighters than the other Mujahideen soldiers in their squad and they were the ones who would usually operate the stingers and anti tank weaponry. This movie is supposed to be based on a true story.
