I'm in the process of getting a REP-63 contract, and I wanted to include rucking in my training program. I've never purchased any sort of pack before, and I just wanted to make sure that I get something that will do the job. Are either of these packs good for training? http://www.amazon.com/Olive-Genuine-Alice-Frame-Large/dp/B002BX7N3Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1283984715&sr=8-1 and http://www.amazon.com/2275-LARGE-DIGITAL-ALICE-FRAME/dp/B003DCID1A/ref=pd_sbs_a_9. Thanks for the advice.

Many here have traveled many a mile under a Large ALICE pack (the first one).

The one your looking at is used. If it is used but serviceable and comes with frame, straps and waist band/belt it will do.

It's not the best riding ruck around but it gets the job done for the price. Nice thing is, except for the frame, just about everything else can be fixed or modified by someone with modest sewing skills and access to a heavy duty sewing machine, nylon tape and thread.

Check pawn shops and ebay, you can get them for much cheaper and possibly a new one: its hit or miss. If money isnt an option, consider the MOLLE packs as those are the ones that will be on your back during Basic, AIT, and ultimately Selection, you can still get one on ebay for under 100.

Even if you get an old beat up ALICE Ruck I have yet to see one bad enough that gorilla tape couldn't fix.

Nope...Tanker, why? does it show? :D

I've never owned a ruck not held together by duct-tape.....I guess I thought that was pretty normal.

live and learn I suppose.

Just another tidbit...

That Amazon listing says "large" but it appears to be the medium pack. It doesn't look like it has the three smaller mag pouches above the center outside pocket. That, and the overall, size will be your giveaway if you are looking at pictures rather than holding a couple up in front of you.

ETA: I didn't notice it was two links initially. You can clearly see in the second one that it has the three extra pockets. That's the large you want. However, I'd be leery of "Rothco." Just get an actual old issued one from Ebay as suggested. Much cheaper.

...heavy ruck, high speed impact with ground due to a late release of the lowering line... 100mph tape used to be in the ruck whose contents are now spread over a 50 sqm area... the frame looks like NDD got mad at it... and it's the only one you have with you...

Definitely not a paratrooper if that picture didn't come to mind.

Thank you all for the responses, they were very helpful. I went ahead and purchased a pack on eBay. I should get it next week.
