Don't know what to say about this if it's true.
I'm old school and this bothers me for some reason.
BTW, in the article when they write "neutral" do they mean neutered?
Time will tell.
Probably true: LINK (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/08/09/students-lincoln-memorial-told-stop-singing-national-anthem/)
Heads-Up for those posting full text (http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/07/copyright-trolling-for-dollars/)
I think we have a couple dynamics - one short-term, the other more speculative and longer-term.
Short-term, there was a breakdown in communication. Instead of telling the students to quit singing, the officer might have directed them to move and sing their hearts out.
Long-term, we as a society are developing a content neutral stance on many issues that were formally integral parts of our culture. If our culture no longer has robust underpinnings of belief - and patriotism is, IMO, one of those beliefs - then I must question the stability and durability of our culture. More pointedly, if we are told to not be patriotic now, will we be patriotic at some future date?

Uh, what full text???
Nobody like that around here....;)
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard and actually made me quite angry! If the Lincoln Memorial is not an acceptable place to sing the national anthem, where is? IMO, this is just modern political correctness run amok! What a bunch of crap! I applaud the kids for throwing the BS flag and singing louder!
I may be wrong, but going of the National Park Police's website, it is also illegal to sing the national anthem at these places:
The WWI memorial
The WWII memorial
The Korean War memorial
The Vietnam War memorial
I wonder what the opinion of those who fought and died in those wars would have to say on the matter?

May the souls of all those who gave their lives for this magnificent nation rise up and lay slaughter to everyone who supports this law.
Looks like I finally found a way to go out with sword in hand (guns blazing), heart swollen with pride and a song on my lips. :D

(I don't want to cut and paste text, but to paraphrase, The ruling would allow small groups and individuals the right to spontaneously express themselves)
Looks like a security guard was just doing his job and was not aware that the rules had changed.
