My impression from reading is that a majority of what SF does is train indigenous forces. My question is, how often do ODAs go on some kind of mission. Not looking for an exact number, but rather a general idea if it is maybe once a deployment, maybe 2-3 etc.
I'm guessing that location also affects this a lot (ie. more missions in Afghanistan/Iraq)

And you don't see FID or COIN as a mission?

Sorry if I worded my question incorrectly. I meant, outside of the scope of training foreign forces. If you wouldn't mind going into detail, what other kinds of missions did you do. Though I understand what FID stands for, I don't really know what it actually entails.

You want us to tell you what the SF missions are?
Is there a Search button on your screen in the upper right hand corner, or has someone stolen it again?

I've read the different types, and the site didn't turn up anything similar to what I was asking. I'm basically looking for a personal job description instead of say.. goarmy.com's version.
I realize it covers all the types of potential missions, but in reality, what kinds of things were you tasked with on a regular basis and what did you rarely do?

We are one of a few units that operate "at the tip of the spear" for a country that is at war in multiple theaters against various violent extremist groups. That should give you an idea of what kind of missions would be expected of a unit in that position to execute by, with, and through our local national FID partner. Other than that... I'm not sure if there is a good answer to you question.

Talking to my friend he made it sound like most ops were done by other groups. He's a SEAL so I'm sure there is bias there.
I can't tell if I'm just being informed on the different types of SF missions out there, or if it's being implied that you all took part in all those different kinds.
Is the plain and simple answer... you all did all those things pretty consistently?
I've had people say "don't think you're going to be jack bauer or something, you're mostly going to be just teaching others how to fight" Obviously knowing it's not some Chuck Norris action film, but could one expect to be doing all kinds of various things outside the scope of training?
Hmmmmm... We're not going to get into ARSOF is better than NAVSOF. We have a professional respect for our brothers.
Don't believe everything you see on Discovery / Military channel.
Not looking to go there, still sticking to my original question! So would you QP's say it's a good mix, mostly training people with a significant amount of other things or ?

You are not getting it, and everything you are asking about has been discussed here before, in agonizing detail.
You preference to have us trot it all out to you in a neat little package with a bow on it, just for you, versus digging for it yourself is an indicator of laziness.
Search for and read "A Message to Garcia" while you are at it.

I had no idea anyone posted there, when I saw 0 responses I never opened the post. I'll go check that out and take care of it.
As for the recommended reading. I did read that before ever posting. As for the information on missions, again I have read all of that. What I was looking for was a personal opinion.
I know SF does A through Z in theory, my question was trying to get at what is a realistic expectation of one entering the field.
I did searches for "Missions" and a bunch of other terms similar. All that turned up was a lot of random things that didn't remotely address what I was asking.
