The 5th SFG 'Gabriel Detachment' presentation will surely bring back memories for anyone who has ever been detailed for a Gabriel Demo - seeing a film of ol' Willy Chun and Ervin brought some good memories and a smile this morning. ;)

Lodge Bill?And a Japanese orphan who was adopted by an American GI with a Polish surname, a Korean adoptee, a Russian immigrant, the child of Hungarian immigrants, a refugee from Belfast, a several of us from the Blue Ridge with a "working knowledge of English"...not to mention all the Pilgrims from New England with heavy accents...

It was nice seeing the old 5th Group flash again.
Regarding the Gabriel Team; I've drank a few beers with Soter, Deklemaker, Gregory, and McGuiness.

Gabriel does bring back memories. I remember doing a couple of Smoke-eater details. We would wear civilian clothes, have a foreign weapon, sit at a fire and tell the tourists we were eating skunk.
That was a nice article in The Drop about James Gabriel.
Does anyone remember the deer faun named "Peanuts" the guys had as a pet? She would follow anyone who had coffee and doughnuts...
I went to O&I in 1985 and sat next to a former Yugoslav with a nice STRONG accent. I spent a lot of time "translating" for him in the class. He was an SFC in 7th married to a Korean, as I recall he had a a challenging homelife LOL...

Not just the Lodge Bill but the menagerie of WW2 guys that were in the 77th Grp..... They had Carlson's Raiders,Darby's Rangers,1st Special Services Force,Merrill's Marauders,and on and on!.............. The reason we even had the opportunity to join them in 1956 was Colonel Banks didn't want all that experience to go to waste.......
What an experience for us 18 years olds.............;););)

I saw my first Gabriel Demonstration while waiting to go out to Camp MacKall for Phase I. At the conclusion of the demo, it became obvious why we were there. We did the police call and picked up all the leaflets from the leaflet drop.
While on the Strat Recon Committee '84-'87, we had responsibility for the rappel tower demonstration. We usually got a female clerk to volunteer to ride the strecther.
