Here's the deal:

-I'm currently in college. I graduate in December of this year.
-I plan on going into the 18X program as SOON as possible after this date.
-My recruiter is not able to find the next date after December of this year.

I have been told that they don't re-up the schedule until the beginning of each year. So do I have to wait till the end of December to know when I will ship off?

I also won't be on my parents health insurance once I graduate. Is there a way that the .mil will pick up my health insurance until I ship off(I will have signed my contract by then)?

Thanks for any info that I can get.

This is from my experience only coming out of college, but your local recruiter will not be able tell you all of the exact dates to ship out, only your local MEPS counselor can. If you have already spoken with them then I'm mistaken. But the Army's calender is a bit different in that the year starts on Oct. 1st not Jan 1st ( the new fiscal year).
As for the insurance question, no the Army will not cover you until you have fully in-processed (you have not been fully evaluated yet). Have you thought of COBRA insurance through your parents?

I haven't spoken to my MEPS Counselor yet, I will get on that, thanks.

What's the COBRA Ins. you're referring to?

I know nothing about the military, however I do know that King Obama recently passed a "Health Care Reform Bill." As I understand it within this bill unemployed or recently graduated dependents will be able to remain on their parents health insurance effective November 2010 until the day of their 27th birthday. This is the new law as I understand it, I have not read the entire bill much like the people who signed it, but that's the news I have received as I am currently in health care limbo myself.

Good luck with trying to start a military career.

We seem to be attracting a lot of new members who lack the motivation to do their own research.

I recommend that you consider whether you can find your answers on your own before asking for help.

Then come back here to do your final searching and reading before posting to ask the remaining questions.

pat, do you really think we want a guy for a teammate who cannot figure out what COBRA insurance is on his own?
