Germany Offers Program For Extremists To Quit

Germany's domestic intelligence service has started a program for Islamic radicals who want help to quit extremism.

The program started Monday and addresses people who believe in a "fanatic, violent ideology ... based on Islam."

The program called HATIF — meaning phone in Arabic — aims to help extremists to leave behind their fanatical environment.

They can contact members of the intelligence service online or call a specific number.

The agency — which says it is guaranteeing confidentiality — says it wants to help people get out by supporting them with finding jobs or moving to a different place.

The intelligence service estimates there are more than 36,000 Islamic extremists in Germany but only a fraction are considered potentially violent.

I don't know.... This is not going to work. And 36.000 are a very careful estimate. The German capital, Berlin, has over 300.000 Turks, and there is alot more in the country (2.1 million, the ones with German citizenship and illegals are not accounted for). Additionally there are all those Albanians, Iraqis, Iranians and other nationalities that seek asylum here. From what I see on a daily basis we have alot more Islamists here than the Federal Agency for the Protection of the Constitution (that would be the domestic intelligence service) admits...

Since WW2 the Germans are very reluctant in prosecuting such groups or individuals. They are still afraid they get judged by what happend in the past when alot of innocent people were killed by the Government.

I don't know how successful it will be but probably more successful then having no program. :D

Seriously though, I like the idea. Religious extremism seems to me to be just like the brainwashing that occurs when people join a cult. The people need to be handled in a psychiatric fashion.

Maybe there is a need for "reeducation camps" :p;)

Dunno... I just see alot of tax Euros going down the drain. I don't think it's going to make a change with those 37.000 hardcore Islamists we have in the country.

Give those Arabs a job working in explosive ordnance disposal. That's a career field in Germany that's always in need of people. :p

In all seriousness, as one other member here already mentioned, the Muslim situation in Europe is a powder keg waiting to explode. I tend agree with that idea somewhat...

Aren't they all keen on meeting their creator? I guess we could arrange for a meeting...

Re-socializing them will not work. I'm in the law enforement community in Germany and I have first hand experience with that kind of people.
