All,
Just a note to inform you that a geat friend and true american by the name of Mike Kalua has just passed away today.

Mike will surely be misssed by his wife Margie, his family and SF comrades and friends, and the hundreds of students that he put through the Special Forces SMRS communications course and through Robin Sage over the years.

I'm sure he is in a better place where we will all meet again one day! Here was on the 18E Committee while I waas at SWC. Great man that started out as a Veitnam Vet and worked as a Great member of the Regiment and Community.

Please keep his family in your daily prayers.

I for one will certainly miss him.

May God Bless him and keep him close! Amen!

I am truly sadden to hear this news. I remember Mike giving us shit during the course. Making fun of us shooting bow during the breaks. Teaching us bad words in Hawaiian. Tell us stories about the good ole days. To me that man was a legend and what I was joining as a new SF soldier.

May God carry you in the palm of his hand and care for you in the ever after. Go rest in peace.

The Echo class was sitting in the classroom getting our brief for Max Gain when one of the students wrenched forward yelling "nooo!" and started having a seizure on the floor. Cadre and students were moving around the guy trying to assess the situation and get him under control. Mr. Kalua's response? "God, I hope he's not on a three man team." LMAO. I'm gonna miss you brother. You were a great mentor. RIP

RIP Mr. Kalua. I met Mr. Kalua and his son shortly after graduating the Q course. We share a neighborhood. I came home from work Thursday to see EMTs on scene. His son and Mr. Kalua's grandchildren live 3 houses down. I will be sure to pass on condolences and pay respect to a great man.

I remember that day.....

I will Miss Mikey, we had a great time on the committee and was always a blast to hang around. I always used to razz him about his stories, and he'd tell me to go fuck off.....whoda thunk???

Anyway, I was shocked to get the news and very saddened. His memory will live on, he touched many, and many will remember, I for one will never forget.

As he would always say, if ya ask anyone that knew him, they'd say "that asshole" if they said that, then they were his friend.

Good by Mike, with a heavy heart I say that.

Love ya man....see ya someday....RIP and thank you for being you...

We now have confirmation on services for Mike.

There will be visitation at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on Friday, July 9th from 700-9:00 pm.

Memorial services will be at JFK Chapel on Fort Bragg at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 10th. This chapel is special to us as we were married there in 1971 and, in later years, our young family attended Sunday services there.

Our Ohana appreciates all the kindnesses that have been received and are overwhelmed by your generosities. We have enjoyed hearing your Mike Kalua stories and would love to hear more. They have been comforting and will be cherished. He always had stories to tell about many of you and your adventures sometimes in the far corners of the world.

Something Mikey passed to me in Jul 08.....I'm keeping it..

"Hey Bobby G,

Can’t really complain so I’m not going to. I’m getting use to retirement, drove me stir crazy at first, somebody told me it would be fun well I will tell you I miss being around the troops and teaching but I have found other distractions to keep me busy. It’s good to hear from you and I know everything is well at DOT at least the 18Echo side of the house. I do keep up with Bob Smith, Cake (he calls me when he is drunk), and Gendro. I miss working with them and just hanging around. I went out to tent city, pitiful to say the least but like good troopers that they are they make it work for the students and themselves. No sense bitching its all good towards retirement. Good to hear from you Bobby, my cell phone number is 910 987-3810, just in case you want to gab, take care and don’t let the bastards get you down. Hey to Jeff,

Mikey K."

RIP Mikey

Coming up on the second Christmas without Mike Kalua. . .
My heart is still in the season as it arrives, but the hole that is there over Mike's passing is still as big as the day he died. . .
As it should be, I guess... he was a class ahead of me out of training group, and he later made a long-term habit of dragging me around the country with him on each new assignment he thought we'd enjoy serving together for the last half of our careers and even on into civilian life . . .
It won't be too long before I get my final assignment to join him ... (grin)

I miss you Big Mike. . .

Until that time . . . Earl J.
