Five Fingers Running Shoes

I observed a couple of soldiers running today in the gym wearing Five Fingers shoes. I was wondering if anyone here has tried them and how they increased/decreased their performance. I was told that it will help toughen feet and increase your run time. Let me know what you guys think/ know. Thanks
