The upcoming political season may be more engaging than usual. I note the following political ad.

LINK: Video 1:03 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iQ7ZDUutU4&feature=player_embedded)

This is the candidate's official site: LINK (http://www.rickbarberforcongress.com/), indicating that the video originates from the candidate.

My conclusion: We are entering a more confrontational period. Beyond that, I cannot say. Perhaps others will have better insights.

Interesting video. Reminds me somewhat of an earlier post about an Alabama politician with his horse and Winchester.

Theme song can be taken two ways; he is careful to," call the Clans together" and not call "the Klan" together. I do like the tune T-Rock!!

The number of antagonists and instigators grows by the day as do the numbers who appear to agree with their message.

Yet I don't see a fanatic embrace.

Our revolution was a tad more involved then "over a tea tax" but I guess that complexity does not fit into the tea party narrative.

A couple of the more obvious points of this ad:

Barber's pitch to the founders is a patently personal tirade against the IRS and "what they call a progressive income tax" - although I'm not sure what else you could call a tax on income that hits high-wage earners harder than low-wage earners.

Barber appeals to Washington as the owner of a distillery who "knows how tough it is to run a small business without a tyrannical government on your back." But President Washington presided over, and approved, the first tax levied by the federal government -- the 1791 whiskey tax ( http://www.irs.gov/app/understandingTaxes/student/whys_thm02_les02.jsp ). And when the tax met resistance (Whiskey Rebellion or Whiskey Insurrection), he approved the assembling of militias to enforce the law and mobilization of agents to collect the revenue. So this daydream of Washington angrily ordering a "gathering of armies" to oppose a tax is...

What would the world do without such hype.

And so it goes...

Nowadays an individual can't win w/o resorting to these types of "visual" theatrics.

Stay safe.
