View Full Version : Dennis Hopper Dead
Actor Director Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet) died today at age 74. He was also, as some of you may know, an OSS lineal descendant. His father Technical Sergeant Jay M. Hopper was an OSS medic who served in Kai Yuan, China with OSS Detachment 204. OSS Schools and Training Branch set up a small training base there for newly arrived SO personnel in the Theater. Jay Hopper ran the camp disepnsary with a contract physician named Viktor Gorchenko.

Interesting history on Mr. Hopper. It seems that celebrities always go in threes. Art Linkletter, Gary Coleman, and now Dennis.

I was on Hulu earlier today and watched the 1st episode of The Rifleman. Ironically, he was the Guest Star.

Dennis Hopper was a great actor, may he rest in peace.
Perhaps the Base Camp thread reflects back on his Dad's OSS time.

I'm usually not one to care about celebrity hoopla but I was a big Dennis Hopper fan. Easy rider is one of my favorites, and Waterworld, while corny, is amazing. May he rest in peace. I think I'm going to watch Super Mario Bros. now.

Great call, Big Teddy! I love 'Hoosiers'! I had a bad week - in 'Professional Learning Community' in-service for 4 days. I got home and wanted to watch a well-written, well-acted, well-intentioned movie - and there was my DVD of 'Hoosiers'!
'Shooter' is one of my favorite movie characters, and Hopper probably didn't have to reach very far to play him. From beginning to end - a great movie.
His small part in 'True Grit' was memorable, as were others - including the 'spoiled son' role in 'The Rifleman'

Always wanted to have the mustache he had in Easy Rider. I watched Apocalypse Now in German. If you thought his dialog was fast in English, auf Duetsch was like copying morse two speeds too fast. He was brilliant in that movie. He was a convincing colonel in that Pentagon/SOCOM TV show he was in a couple of years ago.
He was a work in progress. He overcame a great deal and turned out to be one heck of a guy. Actor, director, artist. Yep - I respect a man who hits huge problems in his life, overcomes and comes out better on the other end. Pretty inspiring.
