Everyone needs to take a moment to read this bill, the point of which is that the libs in congress want to stop live tissue training at the jsomtc for 18d and elsewhere

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-4269

its very short and wont take too much of your time. Please look at the cosponsors and if you live in their districts please contact them stating the importance of this type of useful training. This is the most realistic form of traumatic medical training that we can recieve, short of the real thing, and it saves the lives of Americans. The patients are treated in the most repectful and humane way possible and as an animal lover myself I can tell you that this type of training does not violate any common sense based person's ethics or morals. This is not something being thrown around in Washington, Sergeant Major of the Army and various Congressmen will be coming next week to inspect so plese once again, write, call, or email your reps and kill this bill.

Read the bill...one word....garbage. Feel good nonsense from the left coast, which IMO puts the rights of animals above the lives of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. Don't get me wrong I love animals…really I do....but not as much as I like knowing the 18D's, PJ's, corpsmen, and others have firsthand experience treating sucking chest wounds and other potentially deadly battlefield injuries on real living tissue....I understand their idea….oh well they go to trauma hoplites’ they’ll get all the experience they need there….good theory…and lots of things work in theory…this isn’t one of them IMO…..and then there is virtual training……Virtual training is great....but it's like phone sex....not bad when that's all you've got...but no substitute for the real thing.

I took a look at Mr. Filners background, the first thing that strikes me is a noted absence of any service in the face of danger....which is why his stance here doesn't surprise me a bit. He touts the fact that he fights for vets yet is seeking to take away training that hones the skills of those charged with actually saving soldiers on the battlefield.....that and the fact that Barny Frank is a cosigner make me want to email a few folks about this bill.

Thanks for posting this.

Headquarters, Department of the Army Executive Order 096-09, MANDATES all deploying Army medical assets must receive this awesome training now, which is to say the Pentagon wants this but the Politicians do not, what happen to 'United We Stand, Divided We Fall'?

This bill will put many out of a job... but hopefully the slow bureaucratic process might not stop them just yet. We are learning so much from LTT, and we need at least something realistic to mentor the Warriors before they are knee-deep in the real life scenario. Why wouldn't you want the best in world-class training for the 'tip of the spear'?

I am going to ask my buddies in San Antonio next week, if they are tracking this... We will just wait and see if this goes through, I am sure that we can still get the best for the best. :munchin

This is again a bunch of Congressmen that wish they knew something about what they are about to pass a bill on, but in reality know nothing.

They've tried to stop this training several times before but have failed. Hopefully, this isn't the final blow. The thing that separates the 18D from ANY medical professional is LTT. Take that away and you just have a guy who applies bandaids and hands out pills. It is the surgical skill of the 18D that separates him from any other in the world.

I can remember them trying this at least twice during my years in. The difference today, that may unfortunately help them get it this time, is the liberal administration we currently have. Those with the greatest power were the protesters of the Viet Nam era. Most of the Congressmen who were veterans of WWII, Korea or Viet Nam are gone or silenced. Who are the advisors they are listening to?

I was surprised at the brevity of the bill though. It was basically just a "thou shalt not" kind of thing. They fail to see that there is a major difference between the wounds seen and trained for in a civilian setting versus a military combat setting.

ALCON,

I asked one of the decision-makers during the US Army EMS Conference, what they thought about this bill. They are not sweating, although they are truly tracking this effort at the Capitol. I have not had the chance to experience the JSOMTC version, but I hope to see the conventional side very soon.

We must remain vigilant. Thanks for letting me into the forum, back to training.

That training has saved countless human lives in the real world over the years.

This is another instance of our goverment being increasingly populated with persons having zero experience in a military, or even public service, sector. I thank God I never had to use my HM skills to save a life, but I know, truly know, that I would have likely killed someone if I had needed to use my 'head knowledge' and not had LTT. There is no other way to understand what a cric feels like. Or how tight a tourniquet really has to be to stop arterial bleeding. Or how tiring it is to simply put pressue on a packed wound for that long. Or any number of things. There is no substitute for experiece, but the next best thing IMO is experience with a human substitute. If any number of people come forward with a single instance of their training saving a life, this bill will die, quickly.

I was able to attend this training that my unit put on. I can honestly say it was the some of the best training I have received so far in my career. The situations and scenarios we were exposed to had a tremendous impact on the soldiers who took the course. Day one of the training the instructor said to us "This training, will save lives. These patients are going to give their life so that you will be able to be as prepared as you can to save a soldiers life when you get down range. Treat them with respect."

And this training did/will continue to save lives, point blank.

Wrote my congressman yesterday. I've been a medic for six years and working towards 18D and this is one part of the training I have always wanted to do.
