I wonder if 24 Hour Fitness will be offering this program anytime soon? :)

China's Newest Fitness Sport

A growing number of Chinese women are experimenting with the country's newest, and most controversial, fitness activity.

And so it goes...;)

Although this is funny, it is also interesting.

With China's GDP growing at a rate exceeding 7% every year (the US rarely breaks 3%) and with it's economic influence reaching far and wide, from Iran to India, to Russia, Africa and Latin America, many are concerned regarding how China will truly impact the world in the next 50 years. [Note: Depending on how China crunches their numbers, the US economy is about nine times the size of the Chinese economy at this time and that gap is closing fast.]

Will China, with the largest national population in the history of the world, eventually absorb the rest of the world? Or, will China succumb to the "design", if you will, of the rest of the world in order to be compatible?

Some economists have made the analogy that the globalization of the economy is akin to the software on a computer. In this analogy, if the software of a country is not compatible (i.e., it's economic system), it will not be able to "plug in" to the world economy effectively.

China is at an interesting point in its history. Currently, China impacts the world with its tremendous appetite within the commodities market and dominates in the realm of cheap manufacturing. But, resources are not infinite. Currently, China's potential for cheap manufacture has lowered the price of production, but its appetite for critical raw materials has raised the prices of commodities.

Also, China's population will inevitably evolve economically and educationally; it has no other choice. China's success in maintaining an ever increasing growth rate will lead it to raise the size and number of its industrialized centers. This will lead to a more educated and more technical population. This will also raise the cost of living in China. Workers will eventually require higher pay in order to keep up with the increased rate of internal consumption that will surely come their way as a result of economic prosperity.

The value of the US dollar in China will eventually drop. Currently, what a little less than five dollars buys in the US can be had in China for one US dollar. As China grows, this will change. As other industrialized nations will also require raw materials, commodities will continue to increase in price. There will come a time when this will no longer be off-set by cheap manufacturing.

Will China absorb the world, or will the world absorb China?

Pole dancing as fitness in China ... it's a good indicator of what the future may hold for the world. It's also a good sign that we should probably buy stock in Victoria's Secret - thongs will be all the rage in China soon enough. :D

Will China absorb the world, or will the world absorb China?

China's ascendancy, while likely, is still far from certain. There are a number of risks, including:

1. They have already passed their demographic peak which typically comes with a sustained period of growth.
2. They are still a planned economy. Planned economies are not sustainable.
3. The inherent tension between economic and political freedom which could lead to some type of social unrest.

I wonder how long it will take for Islamic terrorist groups to take notice of the westernization of China and decide to start taking action. China IS in much closer proximity to the Middle East than we are...:munchin

If I understand your statement correctly…China’s economic prod into capitalism is not sustainable due to basic economic factors eschewing the equilibrium balance essential to supply and demand; and that the representation of potentially 50% of the Chinese population pole dancing could be interpreted as fallacious stimulation reaction to an overheated economy, and further, that the leadership is cognitive of this unsustainable infiltration into world markets and offers us instead, self gratification to counter its flawed flaccid penetration.

There are about 1.5 males in China for every 1 female. That's a lot of guys who will never be able to find a woman. I don't think you can underestimate how interesting that alone will make things. Especially if a bunch of those women are pole dancing.

China is already pissed off about their discovery of gold clad tungsten bars. I'd say it's only a matter of time before they demand that somebody makes it right. That's also going to be interesting.

Furthermore, while China has gotten better at manufacturing, there's still no comparison between their goods and quality American goods. Look at a Bridgeport knee mill and compare it to a Chinese copy... No contest. American goods, while they might be more expensive, are almost always going to be better. You get what you pay for. That, plus the fact that historically, America is about ideas and China is about copying those ideas, and right now we're seeing a huge resurgence in "Made in America"... More people these days would rather pay for quality items of lasting value than cheaper crap that keeps wearing out and needing to be replaced. This doesn't bode well for China. Interesting times to be living in. :D

And speaking of pole dancing, could somebody please tell me when being a stripper or acting like a stripper (or engaging in whorish behavior in general) became cool?

Ever hear of Betty Page or Gypsy Rose Lee? But that might have been before your time.

Betty Page and Gypsy Rose Lee were classy. And being a stripper wasn't socially acceptable back then like it is now. In the 50's, it was shocking. Same with Madonna when she made the transition from material girl to dirty girl back in the 80's. People were shocked.

I would argue that there's a world of difference between burlesque and modern day strippers.
