General Officer Announcements
Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:


Army Lt. Gen. David P. Fridovich, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Fridovich is currently serving as director, Center for Special Operations, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Donald C. Leins, for appointment to the rank of major general. Leins is currently serving as deputy director for strategic initiatives, (individual mobilization augmentee), J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Army Col. Nadja Y. West, for appointment to the rank of brigadier general. West is currently serving as commander, Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Col. Ming T. Wong, for appointment to the rank of major general. Wong is currently serving as commander, U. S. Army Dental Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Hmmmm, no picture.

Wonder if he still has his mustache? He had one as a Major when we were together - as did I.

Whats TIG/S from senior Maj to Jr COL?

Could have run some type of Med Services at an FOB 8 years ago.

Hey, if the MPs could do it.....................

LOL, I see that all the time here. I'll tell them, "Boy if I was going to wear that patch on my right arm to this school, I think I'd come a little taller."

Colonel Nadja Y. West

Colonel Nadja West is a native of Washington, D.C. After graduating from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, she attended the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where she earned her Doctorate of Medicine Degree.

She completed her internship and residency in family practice at Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia. During this assignment she deployed with the 197th Infantry Brigade, 24th Infantry Division during Operation Desert Shield and was attached to 2/69th Armored Battalion during Desert Storm. She then served at Blanchfield Army Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a staff family physician and then the Officer in Charge of the Aviation Medicine Clinic. While there she also participated in a medical mission with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
Colonel West completed a second residency in dermatology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center and the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. She was then assigned as the Chief, Dermatology Service at Heidelberg Army Hospital in Germany. Colonel West then served as the Division Surgeon of 1st Armored Division in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, deploying to the former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo as the Deputy Task Force Surgeon.

She was then assigned as Chief, Department of Medicine and the Dermatology Service at the 121st General Hospital in Seoul, Republic of Korea. COL West then commanded McDonald Army Community Hospital, Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Colonel West completed the Army Medical Department Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Flight Surgeon Course and the Command and General Staff College. She graduated from the National War College, in Washington, D.C., earning Master of Science in National Security Strategy.

She was then assigned to the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) at Bethesda, as the Deputy Commander for Integration, becoming the first Army Officer to join the leadership team at NNMC.

Her awards and decorations include the Combat Medical Badge, The Flight Surgeon Crewmember Badge, the United States Army Parachutist Badge, The United States Army Air Assault Badge, the German Armed Forces Bronze Eagle, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medical with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medical, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the NATO Medal, and various campaign medals. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Family Practice.

Well it must have been 2nd Bn.

But in that time period they were giving Combat Patchs in support of some types of operations that most QPs here are aware of.

In two years of steady deployments 1/4 of our company qualified during one short 15 day period or so.
