Sorry for the late notice fellas but History International is airing a good program (so far anyway) called Russia Land of the Tsars in two parts. It's on in the East Coast right now. :munchin

Part one begins with the founding of ancient "Rus" by Viking warlords, Russia's subjugation by Mongol hordes, the rise of Ivan the Terrible, and transformation from isolated borderland to powerful European state under Peter the Great.

Part two covers the Empire's zenith under Catherine the Great, the 19th-century struggle as the autocratic dynasty tried to cope with the social and economic upheaval of the Industrial Revolution, and the social chaos that brought Lenin and the Communists to power--and claimed the lives of Nicholas II and his family.

Doing Catherine the great right now (not literally) pretty interesting so far
