1st, I am not trying to get in shape for SFAS, but I am trying to lose a few.

I have been trying to pick one of the 40+_- bells off ebay and the prices seem to have skyrocketed.

I did some google foo and I think I found the reason.

Looks like the Chinese Police Force has started using KB's by their mid-nite river scuba teams.

Can anyone verify??

Hey - where'd you find the old 'Barney Miller' pic? I loved that show! :p

In all seriousness though....KBs really are way too expensive for what they are. Dumbbells will have to do...

All iron is expensive, buck a pound is "dirt cheap", any shaping after casting adds to the manufacturing expense.

before I use "google fu", what is the cost per pound of Kettle Bells?

About $1.77 a pound give or take, Sir.

I have four of them myself, two 35 lbs and two 52 lbs. Got them around 2001 IIRC. Can't remember how much I paid for them, but I remember thinking at the time they were not cheap. Love them though, taken them all over the world with me, but YMMV.

I made one similar to the second Kettlebell shown on page link below. It works fine. I did no cutting or welding. Just bought the elbows, T-joint, threaded pipe sections and flange at Lowes or maybe Home Depot. It only took a couple minutes to figure out the sizes and fitting right there in the store aisle. About $8, I already had the weight plates.

Here's an alternative, I haven't tried this.

You are limited on exercises but this one is great for heavy swings.
