Schwarzenegger Rips Romney, GOP For Stimulus Hypocrisy
Sam Stein, HuffPo, 22 Feb 2010

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) accused his Republican colleagues in Washington on Sunday of blatant hypocrisy on the stimulus package -- railing against the jobs bill in public while posing for stimulus-related projects and ceremonies in their home districts.

Appearing on ABC's This Week, the moderate Republican frequent GOP scourge pointed to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in particular for arguing this past week that the stimulus bill hadn't produced a single "net" job gain.

"I find it interesting that you have a lot of the Republicans running around, and pushing back on the stimulus money and saying, 'This doesn't create any new job,'" said Schwarzenegger. "And then they go out and do the photo ops, posing with the big check and they say: 'Isn't this great, look at the kind of money I've provided for the state and this is money to create jobs, and this has created 10,000 new jobs, this has created 20,000 news jobs, and all those kinds of things.' It doesn't match up."

It's hypocrisy, said host Terry Moran. "Exactly," Schwarzenegger replied.

"I don't want to beat up on my Republican colleagues but I think it is kind of politics rather than thinking about one thing, and this is: 'How do we support the president? How do we support him and everything we can in order to go and stimulate the economy back and think about the people and not the politics?'

"Anyone that says this hasn't created a job, they should talk to the 150,000 people getting jobs in California," he added, "from the private sector and also from the public sector."

Romney, it should be noted, has already been slapped on the wrist once for the stimulus-related statement he made during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday. The Associated Press fact-checked the speech and found his "assertions lacked context at best and at worst were flat-out wrong."

This scam is sooooo like the 100,000 cops. Giving somebody a pay raise this year with Federal Money means the organization will have to dig twice as deep next year to cover this years pay raise - and next years - unless................

Unless we do another Bailout bill next year thats twice the amount of the first one.

Hey, all the Fed needs to do is print some more money. Pretty soon we'll all be millionaires - and we can go get a burger with all our wealth.

The department I used to work for hired three cops recently with federal funds. As soon as I heard it I wondered how they would keep them if three others don't quit or retire in the next few years. I still find it funny that our solution to a crisis primarily caused by people spending money they didn't have is the government spending money it doesn't have. But what do I know?

I think the point Gov Schwarznegger was making was the patent hypocrisy of the politicians even within his own party - playing the 'us vs them' PR game while not really trying to resolve much of anything for their constituents or the country.

This past year he really lit into the CA Legislature for the same sort of behavior in his State of the State remarks - they didn't like it - I did.

My Dad used to say a dog will yelp and try to bite you when you step on its tail - I think my Dad knew what he was talking about - and I think Arnold does, too.

YMMV - and so it goes...

I think Arnold is a fool to be talking about the issue. He took the money and used to to cover short term pay raises for school teachers and other public workers.

Just what is CA going to do next year? Just what are we all going to do next year as Rev Wright says "The chickens come home to roost."

But yes, there are a lot of politicians doing the local "look what I done for you" grip-n-grin while they hope nobody is looking.
