View Full Version : "Disabled Kids Are God's Punishment"
This is the kind of stuff that frightens voters  and confirms in my mind the importance of our fundamental belief in the separation of church and state.

Disabled Kids Are God's Punishment
VA NewsLeader, 22 Feb 2010
State Delegate Bob Marshall of Manassas says disabled children are God's punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.
He made that statement Thursday at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.
"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children," said Marshall, a Republican.
"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."
Marshall was among more than 20 people, mostly Christian pastors and clergy, who gathered for the press conference in the General Assembly Building.

It doesn't frighten me, it angers me. How utterly ridiculous.

I grew up going to church and consider myself just your everyday protestant. I'm not claiming to be anything other than just a regular person with no extra education regarding religious things. However, I feel comfortable saying this lunatic has no basis for his ridiculous claim, he is not or should not be considered in the mainstream, and is nothing more than a horse's ass. His spewing venom does nothing more than to make his position as a horse's ass abundantly clear as well as make a negative image for those of us in the mainstream.

The Lord I frequently asked to let me and my troops make it past the LZ coming in- is not the Lord this nut is talking about. I have never heard of the Lord/God this idiot speaks of.

He is wrong from a medical viewpoint.
And an a$$hole from any other.
What's scary is that this guy is an elected delegate. Worse, he'll probably get re-elected.
The idiot must have skipped Sunday School the day they read the story about Christ healing a blind man. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life." John 9:2-4
I have a developmentally delayed child. I see God working in his life and in mine as I learn patience, empathy, and a host of other lessons as I raise him.

State Delegate Bob Marshall of Manassas is only showing his ignorance. God speaks in psalms 166:6. Saying that God protects the simple hearted. There are always nuts out there who belong to a backwards church’s. He has no clue on what he is speaking of, and does not deserve a reply from anyone. The thing that bothers me, is he claims to be a republican;"ouch". Marshall probably goes to Obama’s old church in Chicago with Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Now that guy is a Nut and He scares me.
May God Bless you richly in the Name of Jesus.

good word T
its such a shame that a few nutjobs get the spotlight and the all the other multitudes of really blessed people get lumped together with their case. It seems like people are quick to toss the baby with the bathwater. I like this saying....
"I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day"
"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children," said Marshall, a Republican.
Clearly, a study is needed to compare the results between an abortion of the first pregnancy and the second pregnancy.
For the right funding package, including generous payments to the researcher, I could try to set something up. Of course, it might take years.... :D
This is the kind of stuff that frightens voters  and confirms in my mind the importance of our fundamental belief in the separation of church and state. ......
Well the other side of the coin is "Small defect? No problem just abort." "I wanted a boy, not a girl - abort." "I wanted the baby to have blue eyes - just abort."
Yes abortion is choice. But it appears to be a choice for only one of the two individuals involved.

Well, that didn't take long. Apparently, "misimpression" is the new term du jour.

Marshall backs off
'punishment' comments
RICHMOND — State Del. Bob Marshall said Monday he does not believe that disabled children are God's punishment for having an abortion.
Marshall, a Republican from Manassas, was responding to a Capital News Service story quoting remarks he made last week at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.
The CNS story "conveyed the impression that I believe disabled children are a punishment for prior abortions," Marshall said in a statement posted on his Web site.
"No one who knows me or my record would imagine that I believe or intended to communicate such an offensive notion. I have devoted a generation of work to defending disabled and unwanted children, and have always maintained that they are special blessings to their parents.
"Nevertheless, I regret any misimpression my poorly chosen words may have created as to my deep commitment to fighting for these vulnerable children and their families."
On Thursday, Marshall spoke at a press conference in the General Assembly Building to urge the elimination of state funding for Planned Parenthood because the group's services include abortion.
At the news conference, Marshall said:
"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.
"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."
Marshall was among more than 20 people, mostly Christian pastors and clergy, who assembled for the press conference, which was held by a group called Virginia Christian Action. Its members presented a petition calling on Gov. Bob McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to stop funding for Planned Parenthood. All three top officials are Republican.
The petition was signed by a number of prominent Christian leaders, including the Rev. Jonathan Falwell of Lynchburg and the Rev. Pat Robertson of Virginia Beach.
McDonnell has publicly supported calls to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood. His predecessor, Democrat Tim Kaine, supported funding for Planned Parenthood.
