Damn, I woke up this morning with a hankering (for a hunk o cheese! :D) for some eggs, but not just any eggs. There is a small restaurant in LODO (Denver Co) called the delectable egg and they have an outstanding breakfast menu.
Looks like I need to run to the grocery store and grab some stuff to make breakfast for dinner.

Since you've got the thread titled "breakfast", how about some alternatives to traditional breakfast foods? My favourite breakfast is smoked albacore, red onions and cream cheese on a crispy edged toasted bagel.

I first had it at Los Bagels (http://www.alaskaair.com/www2/Destinations/munged_qs/restaurants.asp(city+ACV)) here, I believe. There is a place (http://www.fishbrothers.com/gp1.html) in either Eureka or Arcata where they smoke it. Absolutely wonderful and it can be shipped to you frozen for a horrendous price. (Did that a couple of times, but the price finally got me.) Since you asked, I googled and found this place (http://bella-costa.com/shop/) which offers it canned from the PNW. I think I may try it.
(BTW, heat the albacore up before you put it on the cold cream cheese and toasty bagel. The thought of cold fish in the morning.... ewwww)
Try granola and honey or vanilla mixed with yoghurt. Mix it up and you have something that'll keep you going for a long time.

The Korean breakfast is actually quite tasty, normally hot soup, kimchi, other small veggie dishes and of course a bowl of rice. Especially good after a long Soju-filled night...
But I'm still partial to herring sandwiches, too. Marinated herring filets, lots of onion and some cold egg slices. Mmm, and guarantees a free seat in the subway afterwards. ;)

Forgot about This One,
Boudain Sausage, Steamed/Boiled and sliced into pieces. Served on Crackers With Butter and Hot Sauce.
Bueno, Definately Bueno.
One of the BEST Breakfasts I've ever had was when I was working on a show out in Boston. We used to go down to Buzzards Bay and there's a resturant called Perssy's. They've got a "Fisherman's Breakfast" that's the best I've ever had.
For $5.95 (this was back in 94, so the price might have gone up a bit) you'd get :
4 XL Eggs -- any way, with 4 toppings..ie, cheese, peppers, onions
6 Strips of Bacon
1 XL Potato, made how ever you want, Hash browns, fries, chips
4 slices of toast
4 Pancakes, that were at least 1/2 inch thick and 12 inches across
4 Sasuage Patties, these were a good 5 inches across
A Pot of coffee on your table
A Crafe of Orange Juice
Like I say, this was 10 years ago. I wonder if the resturant is still there and if they still have this breakfast? Well worth it.

Not something new but it's a fun breakfast for kids
Egg in the Middle the a Hole Outside
2 slices of bread
2 eggs
Butter
1. Moderately butter a large pan medium low heat
2. Lay bread on the counter, use a glass to cut out a hole in the bread.
3. Lay the bread in the pan, drop the holes outside the bread, crack an egg in each hole. Flip when the white is cooked halfway through, (you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it.) Flip the holes at the same time.
Use the holes for dipping.
Side with sausage
There's several variations on this, scrambled, omlet, etc.

Do you end up being "the A-hole outside" while everyone else eats breakfast? :D
This stuff is great...and when you are on an SF Mountain Team, you can burn the calories...

The wife has made it enough to have adapted the recipe...what galls her is that she made it for her mom when she came to visit in BT...and her mom (the child of German immigrants) said that she knew how to make it, but never did because her (the LYB's) dad didn't care for it...

I know I am old, but... ham and lima beans! As long as you have some tabsco sauce and some pearl onions to add. Cook 'em in your steel pot!

If ya got one close, Cracker Barrel anytime for breakfast; fast...good...cheap...coffe cup stays full and, aint gotta clean up (keep the wife out of the gift shop!!).
Cold at home...anything Italian that is not soup...including left over steamed, stuffed artichoke...but then maybe I am sicker than most.

Cracker Barrel is great! I particularly like the hash brown casserole. And the warm apples aren't bad either.

Eggs with Jalapenos, tabasco and a splash of milk.
Breakfast platters at resturaunts are great, but the big chains ruin it. I love the mom n pop shops.

Can you say scattered, smothered and covered??:D
Yeah, I have a tradition of eating breakfast at a Waffle House whenever I am going on a road trip by myself. Knock on wood, never had a wreck yet, but I have witnessed the aftermath of some good ones.....breakfast on the road is like my good luck charm......more folks should eat breakfast before they hit the road.

I never can remember the Wafflehouse code for the way I like em but it's with chili, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. Eat some hashbrowns like that with a couple eggs, and some toast and you are good for days.

While I attempt strenuously to only lurk on this forum, occasionally (ahem, *rarely*) I come up with something that I think is pertinent and interesting. This is one of those occasions.
As a current student and a former active duty soldier, I cannot tell you how much I miss the breakfasts provided by the dining facilities on the various forts where I was posted. Nor did I realize at the time just how endeared I had become to those “free” meals. I found myself considering this very realization this morning. I awoke early to allow for some morning studies before a day of P.T. My breakfast options? A bowl of oatmeal and a microwaved pot-pie.
I cannot tell you how greatly I would have appreciated this morning a “served to order” omelet and breakfast options available at the D-Facs. All of which becomes all the more interesting when I consider that I occasionally complained about the quality of the food while on active duty and often complained of the lines and wait times. Both issues seem inconsequential compared to my current Raman – PotPie diet. :D:D

It's My recipe worked over 30 years to get were it is. Blitzzz
( this is not a Quiche)...IT'S;
Dave’s Baked Eggs
Equipment:
1. Large microwavable mixing bowl.
2. 9 inch pie pans.
3. Pam (to coat the Pie pans)
4. Chopper or very sharp knife.
5. Frying pan. (for the sausage)
Ingredients:
All will be chopped to a finely minced product.
1. 1 bell pepper.
2. 1 onion Medium.
3. about 10 mushroons.
4. crushed garlic ( about 2 tablespoons).
5. Small can of chopped black olives.
6. 1 Jalapino pepper
7. 1lb hot ground sausage ( I use Tennessee Pride)
8. about 3 cups of shredded chedder or Mex Mix cheese.
9. 9 or 10 eggs.
10. Milk (I eye ball about 3/4 the volume of the eggs.) (sometimes it looks equel to egg volume).
11. Seasonings heavy with THYME, Basil. Moderate with Oregano, salt and pepper to taste.
Steps/method:
Preheat oven 425ª.
Cook and crumble the sausage, and drain grease
Chop/mince all veggies and place in the bowl
Add seasonings to the bowl
Stir well & place in microwave for 2 min on high.
Remove from microwave and add eggs, milk, and sausage.& stir well
Now add the cheese to thicken mix to “cake batter” thickness. (should not be too thin should stick to a spoon. (it will pour to the pie pans thickly).
Pour into the pie pans and put in the oven middle racks for about 35 mins. You should check to ensure the centers are firm and some browning around the edges.
When done, remove from oven let stand about 5 minutes. Then cut and serve (wiith Hot salsa if you wish)
Blitz, What you have constructed is the base of what is known as a Quiche.
Here is the base recipe for any quiche. If you base line your recipe with the egg ratio to cream in this recipe, to yours using milk, it will always be perfect.
Remember the ration of 1 egg yolk to 4oz of cream is the deal. So if you use milf add egg yolks 2/1 when using just milk.
Oh, and the seasoning..are you a piesan from south philly?
Quiche
Vegetable Filling
168 gr. = 6oz. Of each Diced
Celery
Leeks/Onion
Carrots
Bacon Lardons are ¼” X 1” rectangles
28 Gr.Roasted Garlic or 1 oz
28 Gr. Roasted Shallots or1 oz
Cream Filling
6 large eggs
612 gr H/ Cream Appox 24oz.
10 gr or 1Tsp Salt
1/4 Tsp Pepper
250 gr. Reggiano Parmesan or 1/4lb. Grated
1. Sear the bacon on a low heat add the veg, add the S & P and sweat until tender
2. Chop the roasted Garlic & Shallots and Combine with the above
3. Whip the eggs add the Cheese and the veg mix. Make sure it’s well incorporated
4. Pour into the quiche mold bake @ 425^F 40- 65 Minutes
Notes:
Spring Form Mold 9” Round X 2-3”High 2” is the best.
I use Puff Pastry. Rolled out to ¼” thick well Pricked with a fork.
I let it sit in the refer for 2 hrs before prebaking the shell @ 425^F for 25 Minutes.
10 Minutes before set, sprinkle a little cheese on top.
It should be soft firm to the touch when pulled from the oven. Remember your oven is not
calibrated so the time may be off. Use your sense of touch
*****Let sit for 30-40 minutes before cutting*****
When pre baking the shell make sure you weigh it down with some beans or rice that are in foil.
Think of putting a trash bag in a trash can… you have to line the shell so it does not rise.
You can use other dough’s but not sweet dough’s .
On a 10 point scale this is a 10 taste wise and service wise. Can be reheated without a problem
Great for lunch with a small Salad and French bread, a nice Chard or Champagne.

One Word: S O S
My Quiche ego is damage and you know damaged people are dangerous; they know they can survive
Blitz, the quiche recipe was posted as a medium and that is what a lot of classic recipe are - mediums, like turpintine to paint. A quiche base is a basic flan recipe 4.oz of cream to 1 egg. What you can assemble with that base is endless, and yes dammit!!! Try a milf with egg and cream you'll be smackin your lips and licking your fingers clean to the bone......

Whoa . . . I never said I didn't like quiche! or didn't eat it. Actually, now I'm glad to have a recipe so I can TRY to make it. Penn, If I have damaged your quiche ego I apologize.
Anyone remember the ham and eggs in C-Rats? I thought, for the longest time (because a Platoon Sargeant told me) I, that was what quiche was. As long as you ate it cold I thought it was great. I'd trade a big can of fruit for that! That PSG also told me you couldn't roll a 5 Ton backward more then 15 feet without the motor running or you would damage the sprang gear.
And I'm not going near this quote "Try a milf with egg and cream you'll be smackin your lips and licking your fingers clean to the bone...... I thought that was something "not very nice". But. . . I guess you might BE smackin your lips and . . . stopping here!

Breakfast for me means salted meat. Take a large plate, put a nice sized ham steak on it. Add a layer of hash browns or home fried potatoes. Add a layer of Corned Beef Hash(try not to use the canned kind but if there isn't any made from scratch, it will do). another layer of potatoes and top with a layer of maple cured bacon. Get yourself a stack of toast and a pitcher of Orange Juice and chow down...
No muss no fuss egg sandwich for the dairy free out there:
2 Egg white
2 Slices turkey bacon
1/2 cup mushrooms
2 Slices whole grain toast
Cook turkey bacon in 9 inch skillet then set aside to drain. Toss mushrooms into skillet to sauté (add Pam as necessary for no stick) and spice to taste. I am a garlic and fresh pepper girl, but whatever floats your boat... just avoid additional salt as there is already lots in the turkey bacon. Cut turkey bacon into bite size pieces while mushrooms cook. When mushrooms are soft, add bacon back to the skillet, mix, and distribute evenly over the bottom of the pan. Add egg whites and cover (note: glass lids are preferable for this one). Leave covered and cook until edges are browned and there is no running liquid on top. Should take about 2-3 minutes to cook on the first side. Stick the toast in the toaster and dump your prep junk in the dishwasher while the first side is cooking. Flip and brown the second side. Should only take about a minute. Slide out of pan and on to plate to cool for a sec while you get the toast from the toaster. Put egg on toast and eat.
It is quick, easy, and tasty... not to mention a quick clean up and lots of good protein. Also, if you make extra, you can wrap it up for a quick nuke it meal later in the week.
