While a sudden House vacancy does not carry the political impact of a certain recent Senate change, I am surprised not to see a mention of Rep. Murtha's death last Monday (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/02/08/rep-murtha-dead/).
Between Haditha, ABSCAM and his general overall record of pork politics, I doubt that many here will mourn his passing. I do wonder if the Republican Party will be able to continue its Virginia / New Jersey / Massachusetts momentum.

There was a thread which was getting out of control, therefore deleted. This one will remain as long as comments remain professional and on topic. Remember this is Professional Soldiers.

Ever try the SEARCH function? It's the button labeled SEARCH between those labeled CALENDAR and FAQ on the task bar.
Glad to see you're out of that coma with no visible changes to your cerebral functioning patterns.

No, no, no,....the king of pork..YOU'RE thinking of the Sausage King of Chicago
Completely different. :p
And to get back on topic:
One man's pork is another man's jobs program. Like Teddy K, his constituents continued to reelect him.

I think it will be interesting to see what the Republican party can accomplish regardless of Murtha's death. The event in Massachusetts was an eye opener for the Democrats. I do think (hope) that many of the sheep of the nation are finally really seeing what is and has been happening in politics and our country and beginning to develop opinions of their own. We'll see. :munchin

I found several threads referencing Murtha while he was alive. I must have been shoveling snow when the thread Snaquebite mentions was deleted - it didn't come up when I looked.
Glad to see you're out of that coma with no visible changes to your cerebral functioning patterns.
Now I think I'm missing something else. Did we have a dispute that wasn't settled amicably?

Not yet - FYI pink font is used by many of us here to denote sarcasm or humor. ;)

He's one of those "shovel ready projects" that they talked about when the dems passed the stimulus package.;)

He was a vet and he took care of vets.
He took care of Active Duty guys.
He was returned to office over and over.
As we all know, convictions not indictments count. It IS hard to overcome that whole Dim thing, though.
IIRC he was on the outside while those Haditha Marines are no longer in uniform.
Pinhead "I must have been shoveling snow when the thread Snaquebite mentions was deleted - it didn't come up when I looked." No shit? So that excuses trolling? As Richard points out pink denotes humor or sarcasm. But it is up to you to figure out which.
STM bashing a dead guy while you're spending your $500/mo stoploss pay is tacky.
Thank you for your service Brother Murtha, rest easy.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - The Navy is naming its next amphibious ship after the late western Pennsylvania congressman John Murtha.
Navy to name next ship after late Rep. John Murtha
April 23, 2010 - 10:42pm
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus made the announcement Friday at the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. Murtha's family and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were in attendance.
Murtha, a former Marine, represented the Johnstown area for more than 35 years. He died in February at age 77 from complications of gallbladder surgery.
The USS John P. Murtha will be a 10th San Antonio Class Amphibious Transport vessel. With a crew of more than 360, it will transport 700 Marines, their equipment and supplies.
The keel for the ship is expected to be laid in about a year. It should set sail three years after that.
Murtha was the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress
While I applaud Murtha's service to his country (as well as Kerry; ALGORE; McCain; etc), it IS Possible to tarnish that service with one's actios post-service. I'm not so sure how much we should honor a man who accused our Marine's of murder and fed the enemy propaganda machine and thereby helped to prolong both the war and the bleeding.
Honor him if you will, I'll go rearrange my sock drawer.
Sidebar// Uncle Phil: WACO reared it's head the other day. I was conducting some training for our guys and mentioned it and one of the cats had been an HRT assaulter there. Discussion got real interesting, wish I had recorded it. Call me sometime to catch up.

Yep, saw that. Interesting to think that the marines on board will have more integrity, individually and collectively, than the person for which their ship was named. Names should inspire, not remind us of past misdeeds, especially when that person referred to his fellow marines as murderers.
I would much rather have seen the USS Thornton, USS Norris, USS Monsoor, or the USS Murphy - but the USS Murtha…..disgusting…:(
