The Day the Music died
This is the anniversary of the day in 1959 when Buddy Holly died.
He was 22, and had been a rock and roll superstar for a couple of years when the airplane carrying him and two other rock musicians from Clear Lake, Iowa, to Moorhead, Minn., crashed in a cornfield. Ritchie Valens was 17, while the singer they called the Big Bopper was 28.

But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep.
I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride.
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

Cline & Croce - two more who came out at the bad end with their transportation.
Croce's was one of the very few albums I had in 1973.

An unlikely looking fella for a star. His music still echoes in my head sometimes. :(
Ricky Nelson suffered one of those aluminum bodied transportation malfunctions, too, just outside of Dallas in DeKalb.
Richard
RIP Buddy, Ritchie, & JP

Bobby Vee of Fargo ND filled in for Buddy and all. This was the start of his career. Still performs some, often with his kids.
Croce's was one of the very few albums I had in 1973.Jim Croce brings back some memories of a time when people were less interested in pigeonholing popular music and just listened to what they liked.

It was Waylan Jennings that lost the coin flip I also believe it was the Big Bopper who wrote "running Bear" by I think Del Shannon. I love the old music and also a fan of Bobby Vee & the Crickets God bless the troops, who are now frighting for us and our right to be senile. Robert2854

my farovite song, probably "sugar pie honey bun"... first song I learned to sing along to? Chantilly Lace by the Big Bopper, and I still remember it.
My first sailboat I named "Lollipop"... I love dble entendres.. :D
Secnd boat was named , "Dream" for the song. that has to be #2 on the fave list..
Chantilly Lace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TcC_ni0ojo)
Love is Strange (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlu32SOtLgU&feature=PlayList&p=1FE127B29D7740FA&index=8)
In looking at the list on YouTube, it amazed me how many of Buddys Songs others hcae copied and made hits. Brown Eyed Hansome Man, Tanya Tucker turned into a hit, Love is strange = peaches and herb..

I think I have all of Buddy Holly's songs on CD.
I have gotten very fond of one of the less popular ones called "Think It Over".
Richie Valens is fine but I only tolerate Croce as being OK.
From Waylon's official website:
Waylon became the temporary bass player for Holly's band the Crickets, playing with the rock & roller on his final tour. Jennings was also scheduled to fly on the plane ride that ended in Holly's tragic death in early 1959, but he gave up his seat at the last minute to the Big Bopper, who was suffering from a cold.

More importantly it was a time when artists and musicians produced music THEY liked.

All this talk of old music and musicians is bringing back memories of a former team mate, who was a part of the Spiral Starecase...their one big hit, "I love you more today than yesterday."

And....music that was not just like every other of the same genre.
You could tell Eric from Carlos from Smokey from just from the first opening bars of the music.
I have a 6 cd player in the car...

nope... never was much a fan...about the time they came out I was listening to David Allen Coe, Willy and Commander Cody. ;)
Besides the kind of dancing I like(d), jitterbug/swing did not lend itself to ZZ. :D
Bob Wills and Commander Cody sure did though.
