Brillant! And this is why we're spending trillions of taxpayers money.
"Intelligence officials warn"...... allow me to inform the "intelligence officials" that the islamic morons have attempted an attack about every six months since 9/11.
Let's raise our "threat level" to "ultraviolet" and spend another $500 billion in useless TSA security measures. That will show the "mindless public" that the current administration is "attempting" to do something.
It's time to make this "war" (or as obama says "our disagreement") vicious.
I have a novel idea, let's make this fight so brutal that no one wishes to attack America. (I once thought (and was taught) that a standing "Professional" Army was a "deterrent".)
We deter absolutely nothing, terrorists, international drug cartels, rouge nations, nothing.
We have lost our "ferocity". Couple that with a spineless (bowing) administration and you have a recipe to deter, absolutely nothing.

Intelligence Officials Warn Attempted Al Qaeda Attack Months Away
The terrorist organization is deploying operatives to the United States to carry out new attacks from inside the country, CIA Director Leon Panetta told Congress
WASHINGTON -- Al Qaeda can be expected to attempt an attack on the United States in the next three to six months, senior U.S. intelligence officials told Congress Tuesday.
The terrorist organization is deploying operatives to the United States to carry out new attacks from inside the country, including "clean" recruits with a negligible trail of terrorist contacts, CIA Director Leon Panetta said. Al Qaeda is also inspiring homegrown extremists to trigger violence on their own, Panetta added.
The annual assessment of the nation's terror threats provided no startling new terror trends, but amplified growing concerns since the Christmas Day airline attack in Detroit that militants are growing harder to detect and moving more quickly in their plots.
"The biggest threat is not so much that we face an attack like 9/11. It is that Al Qaeda is adapting its methods in ways that oftentimes make it difficult to detect," Panetta told the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Al Qaeda is increasingly relying on new recruits with minimal training and simple devices to carry out attacks, the CIA chief said as part of the annual assessment of national threats provided to Congress by the top five U.S. intelligence officials.

They do this once a year...this makes me feel so much better.
Must be time for everyone to make their case for next year's budget by going to the MSM to again 'cry wolf' to the public so they can get their Congresscritters stirred up and keep the $$$ rolling in - an even more effective technique if it's an election year and the voting public already has their knickers in a knot over Congress' lack of ability to accomplish much of anything worthwhile in the last couple of years.
And so it goes...

I agree.
The question is how to reaffirm our strength in the face of a MSM-sensitive Government. It would seem that one approach would be tp respond to attacks with overwhelming strength (economic and military), crush the enemy with such force as to assert the belief in their hearts and minds that more will surely come, regardless of the religious fabric of their country, regardless of whether they are hiding in mosques or schools. Then, when the Madison Ave PR tribe starts rattling their pacifiers (which will be loud and clear), ignore them...completely. Use the Dog Whisperer tactic: "No look, no touch, no eye contact".
IMO, we have become weak in our resolve and lost our "ferocity" because we have buckled under to perceived public opinion with confusion and indecision. We've begun to believe the publicity of our enemies. The PCs of the world have had their way long enough.
I would be careful of believing my own hype - many have made the mistake of underestimating both our capability and will when we perceive a real danger exists to our families and way of life.
In the meantime - crank up the grill, turn on the game, and enjoy a cold one with me. ;)

The episode made the point that some individuals and agencies use GWOT to advance their own economic interests rather than to protect the country. The episode, also contained numerous brisk exchanges centered around the ongoing debate over how America should best balance security and freedom.
The episode is available here (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ncis/video/?pid=0QMRXy0ZaT72EjeZbwWa8lP55dWA6v8S&nrd=1). That is, at least for now. CBS is stingy with its content.
The question is how to reaffirm our strength in the face of a MSM-sensitive Government.
Perhaps by changing the orientation of the MSM?
Keep in mind, that the one thing the MSM is more fond of than liberalism is money. Advertising represents their weakness.
Isn't it interesting, too, how alternative forms are replacing the MSM? Maybe the MSM is fading, and likewise their pernicious influence.
The NY Times was a $45 stock. Now it's below $11. LINK (http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=NYT&p=M&b=5&g=0&id=p34013357884&a=191426688)
I think that, at some point, the old MSM will be replaced. At that point, a more proactive approach to the bad guys may become popular.

Officials: 'Credible Intelligence' on Terror Attack Planning Against U.S.
Intel Chief: U.S. at Risk of Crippling Cyber Attack Panetta also warned of the danger of extremists acting alone: "It's the lone-wolf strategy that I think we have to pay attention to as the main threat to this country," he said.
The hearing comes just over a month since a failed attempt to bring down an airliner in Detroit by a Nigerian suspect. And the assessment follows only a few months since U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hassan is accused of single-handedly attacking his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, killing 13.
Director of National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair described Hassan as homegrown extremist. He also said that Al Qaeda can be expected to continue and try to attack the United States until Osama bin Laden and his No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahri, are dead.
The U.S. still does not know the intended targets of suspected terrorist Najibullah Zazi, who was arrested in September and charged with plotting to attack New York City with homemade bombs, Blair said.
Blair warned as well of a growing cyber threat, saying computer-related attacks have become dynamic and malicious.
Obama has promised to make cyber security a priority in his administration, but the president's new budget asks for a decrease in funds for the Homeland Security Department's cybersecurity division.
The government's first quadrennial homeland security review states high consequence and large-scale cyberattacks could massively disable or hurt international financial, commercial and physical infrastructure.
The report, obtained by The Associated Press, said these types of cyberattacks could cripple the movement of people and goods around the world and bring vital social and economic programs to a halt.

When the previous administration issued these kinds of projections, it was criticized for fear mongering. Now it is evidence that the current administration is 'doing its job.'
Also, what the heck does "expected to attempt" mean? IMO, this is the kind of CYA vagueness that has helped the public loose focus on GWOT.

The United States of America will not win the Global War on Terrorism.
Collectively it has neither the guts, focus, nor determination to make Islamic fanatics hesitate or think twice. It will take something worse than 9-11 to change that.
When we have the determination to go medieval, to inflict casualties in Biblical proportions, to make them fear mischief and jackassery will they cower, hide, and reconsider the slaughter of innocents.
Until then the prudent intelligence community can ensure their future by simply stating the bad guys are still evil, still hanging around, and still trying to kill us and end our way of life.
No-brainer.

I agree with these sentiments, but the Russians did some of this in Afghanistan (and I suspect have done a lot of it clandestinely), yet they still get attacked. I have not had direct contact with these people and am very interested in the views of you guys who have, but I'm not sure they can be deterred. They do not seem to be rational. Which would mean we have to disable or kill them. :munchin

At the risk of getting badly out of my lane...
The Russian problem was that they did not hit targets valued by the enemy leadership. They killed lots of people, true enough - but those had no value to the Islamic leaders. The rate of population increase in Islamic countries, along with the lack of present opportunities and economic growth, at least suggests a need to reduce the population, whether through emigration or jihad. Thus, the Russians were not hurting the overall Islamic effort. To the contrary, they helped them deal with a large, restive, and young population.
I would contend that they are, in aggregate - although not always individually - acting completely rationally, given their underlying assumptions. Those assumptions seem to include a free ticket to a great afterlife, one which they believe in deeply, if they die while involved in their jihads. When we kill them, even in large numbers, we merely facilitate movement from a harsh existence to a much more desirable state.
To fight them effectively, it seems we must either 1) reduce the population such that they no longer experience the effects of overpopulation, or 2) threaten targets valued by the leadership, or 3) change the underlying assumptions.
Item 1 would probably require removing on the order of 80% of the involved population, given growth rates over the last 60 years. Item 2 would involve targets in nations such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran. Item 3 seems likely to require a long-term effort - true generational warfare.
Item 1 - Sinister said it best.
Item 2 - Sinister said it best.
Item 3 - We can't afford it. In addition, Sinister said it best.
MOO. YMMV.
How many Russians were kidnapped back in 70's-early 80's in Lebanon? I have read that fear played a big part.

Maybe they just need a New Testament and a Reformation, too. I'm sure Glen Beck could hook them up with a few ghostwriters to ensure their tales (visions) are correctly related to the readers...seeing as how it's an ages olde tradition among such illiterati and all. ;)

Maybe they just need a New Testament and a Reformation, too.
One could view that as changing their underlying assumptions. ;)
But I wonder - and perhaps either you or Sigaba could comment on this - didn't the reformation occur at the same time as the Renaissance, with the combined effects of a new flowering of knowledge and improved economics? That seems as if it would be difficult to trigger.
As for their New Testament, we may get to see that sooner rather than later.
LINK (http://www.newsrealblog.com/2010/07/12/uh-oh-khamenei-telling-advisors-he-met-hidden-imam-will-appear-before-he-dies/)
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has out-crazied Ahmadinejad, who only wrote letters to the Hidden Imam in the Jamkaran well and said he was guided by God in preparing the way for the Imam’s intervention. According to a senior cleric, Khamenei is telling his inner circle that he has actually met the Hidden Imam and that he promised to appear during Khamenei’s tenure as Supreme Leader.
Obscure source, no established reliability, definitely open to challenge...but an interesting possibility, nonetheless.
...didn't the reformation occur at the same time as the Renaissance, with the combined effects of a new flowering of knowledge and improved economics?
All depends on who you talk to and - much like the arguments over the Founding Fathers and original intent - far more complex.
See section 5 - Historiography - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance#Other_Renaissances
That seems as if it would be difficult to trigger.
Maybe...maybe not - depending upon whether you are talking about the myth of the so-called Renaissance or the reality of the time period(s) then and now.
And so it goes...

The United States has been referred to as many things in its History - some with justification and many, such as this 'Paper Tiger' label, with little - if any - merit... except in the support of a politician's (secular or theological) ambitions. Richard,
I can see that Beck just pushes your buttons --- But, The Huffington Post is the most vile, pernicious web site on the Internet.
I don’t care what anyone’s politics are, this site trashes and smears with impunity..
Their character assignation and sliming of Sarah Palin and FAMILY was despicable and venomous. Regardless of how you view her politics, She is a women, a wife, a mother, and someone’s daughter. These malicious hate filled people should never be quoted as an authority / source on any issue except hate mongering. After reading the Huffington Post I feel “swarmy” , like I need a long hot shower to wash the excrement off. They are the “crack whores” of the blogosphere.

As for the sky falling they are crying wolf so much people will quit listning so that when they actually have someting to say no one will listen.
I cannot help wondering if the purpose of such things is to divert the attention from other things.
Ever hear of MERS? Or a single word about a related Bankruptcy court hearing on May 20th of this year? No?
But it may mean that a great many foreclosures simply cannot happen. Which, in turn, affects individuals, the banking system, and investors around the world.

It doesn't help, it would hurt the US military on every front of the war in Afghanistan, from the boots on the ground to public opinion. Honestly, the first time I saw that interview I cringed.
I don’t agree with everything that Beck says.
A friend of mine that served made the comment one day that all these stars celebs and rich assholes always "support the troops" but very few if any of the loud mouths ever actually sign up and serve themselves. He can be a bit cynical sometimes, but he has a point.
I used to talk to my neighbor Frank, who served in the Army Air Corps in WW2, about how actors, musicians, athletes, etc. would put their careers on hold to serve, he used to say “kid’s would lie about their age to go fight, times surely have changed.” (RIP buddy):(
I’m not naive, I know some of these people are fake, but I also believe some truly care and the charities and support does help. I get angry and disgusted when I read stories about how Vietnam veterans were treated when they came home.
You didn't answer the question.
The question was "...are we to conclude you believe the official position that Islam is a 'Great Religion that has been hijacked by extremists' and a 'Religion of Peace?'"
Based upon my personal experiences throughout my lifetime and studies, my answer is exactly what I believe about all of the so-called 'Great' religions - including Islam - and people can conclude what they may.
I can see that Beck just pushes your buttons --- But, The Huffington Post is the most vile, pernicious web site on the Internet.
The HuffPo - as with all such sources - must be 'mined' for the validity of its content and to not do so is to limit one's access to information. I read all sorts of sources in forming an opinion - the MSM, sites such as HuffPo and American Thinker and Salon, personal blogs such as VDH's Private Papers, YouTube, edu sites, postings here in PS.Com, etc.
In this instance, HuffPo was cited as a reference only in that it contained the video imbed of Glenn Beck on Fox News performing in a way which is typical of his ilk and I believe is the antithesis of 'supporting' our soldiers and nation. I cited HuffPo in another thread on Glenn Beck in that it contained the actual words and links to the on-going accusations being made against and by Mr Beck - the 'sources' of the arguments vs somebody else's interpolation of the debate.
My greatest beef with Mr Beck is that he is a charlatan of the worst sort, masquerading with great aplomb as a self-educated intellectual who people listen to and cite in the same manner as a Charles Krauthammer or a Victor Davis Hanson - and, to me, that makes Mr Beck a far more dangerous man than he and many others seem to have the ability to recognize.
However, YMMV.

Oh and speaking of the "undocumented" someone may want to send the WH an email stating that the keynan may not want to visit cause the Police in Arizona will soon be asking to show the very documents Hussain Obama refuses to show.....

I do not like Arianna Huffington, her condescendingly strident voice, or her political views - although I understand them. {One should watch the debate held between her and Victor Davis Hanson on American Imperialism at the Hauenstein Presidential Center if you're really looking to understand her views. :eek:}
However - IMO The HuffPo is a valid source to see what the political 'left' is saying in America and why - whether one agrees with it or not - just as GB, RL, BO, etc are worth perusing to hear what the political 'right' is broadcasting and why - whether one agrees with them or not, too.

LOL, I quote myself.....:D
CIA Director Leon Panetta you're an idiot.
So are the morons that gave you the intel estimate. Morons working for morons that work for the "one" moron.
President Bush approach was to "Bring Justice" to the bad guys and we have in spades. Leon Panetta and the current administration can only cry WOLF and pray the public has a very short memory, how very left-wing progressive of you.
Hey I know let's place incompetent ultra-left wing idiots in all the three letter agencies. DHS, check, TSA, check, CIA, check....
2012 cannot come fast enough.

We've now been at war for ten years against islamic terrorists.
Our government screams another attack is "imminent".
Let's spend another trillion dollars on homeland security.
Special Operations just killed two more spineless terrorists in Yemen and New York goes on "high alert".
Who are these sheeple, these terrorist "experts" that continue to cry wolf?
We need to stand down 85% of our focus on "terrorists" and allow the USA to return to business as normal. I don't know about you but I'm very tried of being treated as a "terrorist" everytime I fly, or want to visit the Statue of Liberty.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

We have traded our freedom for security...... it needs to end.
I would sure hate to explain our current national situation to Ben Franklin....
