View Full Version : Raising my hand tomorrow....

Buck

Figured I'd share this, as I've been excited about getting back in and contributing something to the WOT. I got out after 16 years in active service in 2000. Lately it has really been bugging me that I am not actively engaged, or leanding a hand in what our Military is doing around the world to fight against the Jihadist movement. So finally, after months of paperwork I am able to finally raise my hand again, and get sworn in at MEPS tomorrow. I will be assigned to 20th Group. Just wish I could go to selection again, and show some of these young studs what "Not Quitting" looks like from an old fart...lol

Are you kidding? We need the 'old guys'. Besides, it is not that one is old, it is that one has experience. I have learned the most from the experienced, or "old guys" than from anyone. Best to you. :lifter

Congradulations Buck,

Two years ago I went and talked to the CANG and they told me they weren't interested.

I'm sure you have much wisdom to share with the younger troops.

Sincerely appreciate all the kind words, funny thing is, I know damn well every QP on here if he was allowed to get back into it, he would be chomping at the bit like me, and probably be pushing me the hell out of the way to be first man into the breach. I am deserving of no praise, I actually feel like I've wasted 9 years after getting out, and not doing this sooner. Leave the praise for the ones who didn't, or won't make it home, as I am happy as hell at the chance to help.... enough said.

GOOD JOB BUCK!

However, when you talked about wanting to go back through selection, I began worrying about your sanity. (I remember 3 weeks of me getting my ass handed to me).

Good luck bro

Lol, funny thing is, I would actually not mind it. I remember when I was an assessor out at MacKall there was a Major who went through a class, if I remember right he was like 43, 44 or so, the old crusty bastard made it too.

WD

Well I go back in as an E-6, slotted in a Senior Bravo slot. Been to ANOC and O&I. Smag says I should make the cutoff and points for this years board, which he is saying is Feb, so I should make E-7 this year, we'll see. I would love to go WO, we'll see which the company needs more, I heard they are really light on Bravos, which blew my mind

Congratulations, Buck! I'll miss your cracked sense of humor on here, but will take comfort in knowing your team will be highly entertained. ;)

Thank you in advance for your service. All the best to you and those you leave behind.

Not only the company, but the Battalion as well. The route you're taking is not a bad path, but I would most curtainly investigate the WO option.

With the break in service you've had, re-training will be a hurdle, but you'll do well. Obtaining the added value of the WO route will only make you more valuable to a team and the old man BN Cdr, who's probably looking for some salty dudes.

Take care brother...

Buck, Franz tells me you rubbed it in but good! He is as jealous or more than I am. He asked me to remind you to remember that he retained those skills and wants to meet up when you can. He tells me you are quite the careful PI. :lifter

Again, congratulations on your swearing in today. At 1130, according to schedule, you had at least 2 bystanders in the wings wishing you well.

Stay safe,

Jo

So I actually swore in at 1300 CST, so I'm officially in. On the way home I got me a six pack of the Michelob Amberbock, I know all you 10th Groupers like me who enjoyed the Ruetberg Dunkel Beer, but at least its not bad, and dark. I'm celebrating :)

Again, appreciate all the best wishes, and support.

P.S. And yes Jo, Franz said he is still in fighting shape, and wishes he could join too.

Beer (or bourbon, if you so prefer) is on me if you ever make it down my way again. If I head that way (go up to visit friends in AR ever now and then), I'll buzz you up!!

Ah, no..what I said was that after careful consideration of his motives it occured to me that his real reason was to be able to get FREE ammo. :D

I forgot to add, virtually unlimited range time with live moving targets. ;)

Despite my teasing, I still think what he is doing is awesome and am deeply grateful for anyone who would willingly put themselves in harms way to keep me free.
