I'm curious as to what he was attempting to do with the phones? I've not heard
any discussion on that......some kind of tap maybe?

I would hope they are well covered.

Most folks take a dim view of people who break the law.

Would be interesting to know what exactly they had on them. Any equipment for bugging the phones? The article only mentions that the 4th guy in the car had listening equipment.

Wouldn't a conviction of some sort require motive, the act and the equipment to carry it out? Could picking up a phone and looking at it be tampering.

At first glance, and without more info - it don't look too smart.
