Looks like Mother Earth is rockin' and rollin' today. There was a 2.5 quake in western Puerto Rico a few days back. For a month before the Haiti Quake there were a lot of small quakes in the Puerto Rico Trench.
Geophysicists have been watching The Yellowstone for sometime and speculating something big is working towards happening.

You would be amazed at how many earthquakes occur every day. The USGS interactive maps may prove enlightening. Latest Earthquakes (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/)
283 earthquakes worldwide Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/)

It's amazing how many earthquakes there are. I've been going through that site today. There are so many variables with these things.

They had a 4.1 Northeast of Albuquerque last night.
The earth seems restless.

Anyone know what damage it caused? I know here in the US that size usually does not do much, but there is could be a bit worse.
The scales we are familiar with. e.g. the Richter scale or the newer Moment Magnitude scale, are related to the amount of energy released. The damage is dependent on how that energy is delivered to a population area with its people and infrastructure. How the energy is delivered is related to the geology of the area. Mexico city is atop an area that "rings" when energized by an earthquake. Not a good thing. The damage is strongly related to the construction of the infrastructure and how this construction is "tuned" to how the earth will react based on the local geology.
Aren't you glad you asked? :D

Magnitude 5.8 OFFSHORE GUATEMALA

Offshore seems to be the key indicator.

It's also amazing the number of active volcanoes in the world as well.
Exactly. Basically, if we are not sitting on it, it doesn't exist. What earthquake? What volcano?

Top category on this page will open up Google Earth showing the plates and quakes.
Puerto Rico seems pretty active at the moment.
OTOH you can go here (http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/qed/) to see a map of earthquakes in the past 8-30 days and magnitude.
Here (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2010rqb3.php#details) is a page with maps of where the Earthquake happened. Looks like the NW edge of the Carribean Plate where it meets the NA plate.

Last count I saw on volcanoes of the world was something like 1700 total that we know of.. I printed out the list one time a few year back so that my 7th grade Earth and Space class could use part of it to make a database of volcanoes around the world...

USGS has a whole section for teachers. Google "Vocano World" It is a website for kids and teacher about, you guessed it, Volcanoes.
CNN has been showing before and after the quake port of Port au Prince photos from the Terra Server. Interesting how the landscape can change in an eyeblink.
Puerto Rico seems pretty active at the moment.
Daily we have various tremors here, but we don't feel the majority of them since they occur offshore and with low intensity. Gracias a Dios.

al gore also has sole insight to a Bible code linking any and all volcanoes misbehaving, to the Bush administration.
