All,
Go vote for "BellyDoc". He's a good friend and all around great guy! Besides that he's a surgeon and likes to go shooting! (I've shot with him).

It started as an essay contest and now it's down to a final 5 and a get-out-the-vote rally. Voting continues through the 25th and it's close! I'm currently in the lead, but by a hair. Any registered user on the Pirate board can vote, and registration is free. Voting occurs in the thread I posted above, and there's a registration link in the header on that page, or here's the direct link to the registration page:

A close friend of mine raced his buggy in the inaugural event (2008 - finished 7th IIRC) and again in last years event (finished way back - but finished... The competition was much steeper last time)

He's not able to do it for 2010, but I voted for, and will pass the word around my peeps to get after Doc.
BTW he's not a QP from Fayetteville is he? There is another QP on the Pirate boards who is into off-road racing...who -I think- is attempting KOH-10 this year.
Those with thin skin (or propensity to ask really dumb questions) should probably avoid much about Pirate 4x4... it's not a 'nice' place.

I registered and voted only because I stumbled upon bellydocs build of his FJ. That is some serious fab work. I consider myself to be handy with a welder and maybe some metal but what he did with some tube to make a car is amazing.
Not gonna lie I thumbed through all 40 something pages looking at the pictures and the problems he solved on the way to make his rock machine.
Hope he gets to drive and have the time of his life.

@ 1:04 to 1:05 is another Team NAXJA rig that was attempting to race into the main event (qualifying race a day or so prior to) & rolled on that waterfall.
I agree with cornelyj, some of the fab work is pretty amazing.
On a more somber note, Johnson Valley OHV area is among some of the land being considered for an expansion of 29 Stumps. (to be used for aerial bombing) Normally I am 101% behind letting the military train where it feels it needs to, but in this case, there's LOTS of "barren wasteland" out there that could catch 500#ers. JV can't easily be replaced for the kooks who enjoy 'extreme' OHV recreation.

Voted for Doc as I am also a member of that board(pirate 4x4) although I am not planning on racing any time soon. Good luck Doc. Had I seen that contest earlier I'd probably have entered myself, that'd be a great experience to have IMO. Hope you win.:)

It looks like they finished 28th or so! 'Official' results often take a day or three to sort out.
28th out of 102-/+ entrants may not seem like a great showing, but in reality it's pretty good. Just being there running at the finish is a feat, and there were a lot of "pro" drivers & big-budget teams out there on the lakebed.
Congrats in order to Bellydoc, survivor/finisher of the 2010 King of the Hammers. :lifter
