First grandaughter born 1900 on 17 DEC 2009 in Austin, TX. 7lbs, 2oz, 18in.
My son was born in Oakland Naval Hospital 03 JUL 1982. I was there to greet him. I was at sea when daughter was born two years later. Didn't get to see her until she was a week or so old. Today I am overwhelmed with the birth of my daughter's first child. Will leave Virginia tomorrow morning to drive there and meet her up close. Returning some time after Christmas.
What was it like for you when your first grandchild was born? For that matter, when your first child was born?

Our 1st was born Jan 11th, and will be 4 in a month. The 2nd was born a yr ago October..
We can't seem to spend enough time with them,, nuff said..

Congratulations! My grandSON is expected at the end of Feb - first of Mar. First grandchild. A bit of a surprise to me. I am stoked!!!!!

Little beauty..I've got a Grand Niece looks just like her.
I've got three grandsons, but alas no Grand Daughters.
No little Princeses around...yet:munchin

My dtr gave me my first granchild, Kayla when she was 18.
Three grands...2 boys and a Princess. Kayla is 6, Demetri, 4, Micheal 3.
I am quite close to Kay and Demi. Photos of them, thier mother in the background below. We made peanutbutter M&M cookies last night and trimmed thier tree.
Both kids know how to find me on thier mom's cell phone and call me daily.
They live 45 minutes north of me.
Micheal's Parents think I am the bride of satan, so I know him only slightly. :D
It seems a sweet child.

I'm going to be a gentlemen and not ask why so far apart.......;) Mine came at 2 year intervals and all 4 go even and odd each year so for me it makes remembering their birthdays much easier......Maggie had them at 18,20 22 and lastly at 24,we finally figured out why this was happening and that was the end of the children parade....:D

First one was an accident...his father died on the Mekong.
Never really wanted more kids. Kid #1 was a hyperactive handful.
It took some tall talk to make me even consider more bratlings.
Kid #2 was planned... a fact he finds quite amusing.
Kid #3, my princess, her father never knew her.
We lost thier dad in Nicarauga in May 1984. Maja was born in July.
It took me 14yrs and two boys to get my sweet angel baby girl.
pic below with 'little dude' the gopher tortoise we removed from its home under her a/c unit and released him into the habitat behind her house.

Little slow there Teddy? It took you 6 yrs to figure out that the Easter Bunny brought kids and make him into soup??:D
