View Full Version : Computer Backgrounds

This is my current screen background - I'd wager there are some interesting backgrounds being used by members of this forum.

The librarian is one I use when engaged in an in-depth search mode to warn my wife away from my computer and the B/1/10 photo is a nostalgic memory of years gone by which gets used a couple of times a year.

Anybody wanna share?

For the last six years, I have used the uncompressed version of the attachment.

I obtained the original from the art department when I worked at software firm. ("Oh, by the way, when you're done with those logos--which, by the way, I need ASAP--would you mind sending me...")

The brushed aluminum is used as part of the UI of one of the firm's products. (Also, it reminds me that, one day, I too will own a Mac Book Pro. The art department was always the happiest place to be in the salt mines and I think the fact that they used Macs had something to do with their cheerful disposition. Heck, when they yelled at me, they did so with smiles on their faces. "Hey, don't shoot the messenger, I found out about this two minutes ago...I'm on your side...so, do you think you can have it ready after lunch...?:p")

I use a real-time dynamic image of Earth continuously updating in the background. With 3 maps, 11 projections and 10,000 cities. You can chose a political map or satellite image. You can also choose where you center it and projection (Van Der Grinten, Miller, Azimuthal etc..).

I use this one a lot when I am in a military mood.

I am also a fan of the monthly Larue Tactical calendar backgrounds. Link here: http://www.laruetactical.com/calendar/Calendar.html

The wife changes background on the home 'puter often.
This was my favorite.

Kids number 2 & 3 swimming off of the east end of Lone Rock Beach (Lake Powell).

Taken on a recent 3 day trip to Jacobs Lake and Frog Hammock Campsite in the Everglades National Park. The campsite is actually an old filled in logger site, now during the wet season it is the only dry land for a couple miles around with the exception of some fallen trees in the strains.

Beautiful setting for a cabin.

Thanks, other than the amount of hippies that frequent the area and the 12 hour drive it takes me to get there, its pretty hard to beat.

I was out and about last weekend.
This is the current desktop.
Sunshine Skyway Bridge, with bay shrimpers in the foreground. Taken from the Intracoastal Bridge that connects the mainland with Mullet Key, aka Fort Desoto.

Other photo was taken at 3pm on a recent Sunday at Passagrille Beach. Heavy fog had rolled in. Visibility was rather limited as you can see.

I was pretty happy when I saw that Windows 7 lets you create a theme that rotates backgrounds every few minutes. I have about 20 that I go through but these are some of my favorites.

High resolution version available upon request. :D

I have had this one for the past year and on my cell phone as well.

I have always wanted to meet the "Bearded One." Even saw his action figure. The pic has been kind of a motivational tool for me at times. Like the saying, "Go do PT." or "First Time Every Time." Oh, yes, I know these pics are of two different warriors.

I change backgrounds depending on my frame of mind. One of my favorites is this one I found on the U2 spy plane. Pardon the poor quality of the uploaded image. My graphics skills at this point stop at "right-click" and "save".

Went down to Paria beach at Lee's Ferry on Sunday.
My wife snapped this one and it became the new background.

Still trying to think of a caption for it.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
