I once was an 05B/18E many years ago. :lifter
I too endured the torture of learning International Morse Code and learned how to make antennas from junk.
How do you think that I was able to try and guess what type of antenna that was? ;)
Looks like an AS-3482. It's some model of rotatable log-periodic antenna. Directional and good for medium to long range HF.
HF for Air-Craft
LPA setup for high angle radiation. Model : Big (Don't know, but I can find out.
This model can be rotated by remote switching.
Why?

PS Head I agree with you.

Radiation pattern..... (I would say main lobe orientation, but we often used the back lobe of an LPA for shorter links...)
ability for multiple stations to access....

You know it all..TNXS.
I once made a LPA out of wire, it was huge, it was bigger then huge, but worked the world.
