A man is working in his yard and his attention is drawn to flashing police lights. He looks up and right behind the escort unit he sees two hearses driving slow in single file, headlights on bright. Directly behind the second hearse he observes a slightly older, distinguished looking gentleman, wearing a dark suit and tie, obviously in mourning. Walking beside this man are two hound dogs, one on each side. The hounds held their heads low and their tails were nearly between their legs. Next following the man with his dogs is a line of mounerns, all in single file streaching back nearly as far as the eye can see.

Seeing all of this - perhaps the most curious thing he has ever witnessed, the man can't help himself, he leaves his yard, closes in towards the man with the dogs, all the time maintaining a respectful approach. Finally he is a position walking side by side with the man for a few moments he finally says, "Sir, I can see that you are greiving and I want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss". The gentleman in the suit thanks him for his sympathy. Several steps later the man says, "I understand if you would rather not talk, but this is most unusual to see two hearses like this, obviously you've had a double tradjedy. "Yes" replies the man in the suit, both my wife as well as my mother-in-law". Shocked the man asks, "My God, you must be devastated, how did it happen? Car accident?"

The gentleman in the suit explained that his wife had a bit of an anger management issue. Three days ago, she stepped out on their back porch to feed the man's beloved hounds. One of his hounds must have become impatient for his dinner and he nudged his wife's hand to get to its bowl. His wife lashed out and struck the dog who yelped. It was at this point both dogs turned on her and together attacked the wife. Her mother lived with them and when she heard her daughter's screams, she raced out back to save her daughter. The dogs turned on her, too. By the time EMS arrived, there was nothing that could be done.

The man took this all in as he walked silently alongside. Then he offered, "Look, obviously you need some personal time with no distractions, how about I watch over both of your dogs for a week or two?" The Gentleman said "Sure, that would be fine. Go to the back of the line, and wait your turn."
