We value the eyes -- both of them.
The nose -- not so much.
My eye protection can (supposedly) take a shotgun blast. Might want to get some. (Chicks dig 'em too!)

Might have put a couple too many ounces pressure on the press, blade broke and my face went into the top of the press post (steel). This happened with safety glasses on.
Still haven't found the end of the knife handle (tang).
That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
...for now;)
Bill, I am just glad you were wearing safety glasses and didn't lose an eye! :eek:
I think the sissy men live in the other 49 states... you Oregon men are beyond categorizing. :D

We have some of the same tools in common but I do very little forging now. That is one big power hammer he's working from. Great looking shop and work.
My steel work started for the logging side and my first work in edged tools was all forging. I made woodworking tools for timber frame and boat building then jumped off the deep end into knife making.
The Chris Reeve shop would be a good example on the other end of the spectrum with a lot of well managed CNC equipment.
(Kramer could also use a guard on the front of that power hammer, stuff breaks on occasion...but look who's talking)

It's all fun and games until the knife : slips, falls, flys, ricochets, bounces or otherwise leaves the hands of the "expert" and does this...... (see pics)

Thanks, everything is fine and am really trying to be extra safe as a shop standard. "mostly safe" is not good enough. Just like logging, it's the stuff one doesn't see coming that gets ya.
There is a QP here who is an old school logger, he knows this too.

I just GOTTA do this.... I have held back so far..but my good sense just went and took a vacation. I am surprised NO one has said it so far..
OH NO, MR. BILL!!!
When using a 500# trip hammer, use longer tongs and have the aprentice do all the heavy lifting.
Also, the trip hammer should not fall so far. One can set the hammer to lightly touch and crack an egg.
Show us the eye now, Mr. H... we need to see a before and AFTER pic!:munchin
