OK, we have been discussing Jager, now which do you like better, white or black Sambuca? :munchin
Another that some says tastes similar to cough medicine of the licorice brand. :D
personnaly, I like black better and it goes great with expresso.
The first time I tried white Sambuca was right outside Grafenwohr at a bar I don't remember the name to (coincidence, I think not :D) It had 3 coffee beans in it, and it wasn't until later I found out it was to enhance the flavor of anise when you chewed them up. Good stuff! Someone also said it was for good luck. I looked at the wiki page just now, and it elaborates a little bit on the history etc. Interesting: "Sambuca with flies" :lifter

White most definitely:D But I won't turn down a black one either;) I agree it is a pleasant accompaniment to Espresso (or with a Birra). There are many brands but I find Molinari to be the best. If I'm not mistaken they are the originators. Greek Ouzo ain't too shabby either. Not as sweet as Sambuca though.
Black Sambuca,
IMHO along these lines, Fernet-Branca is the craziest stuff out there. It's an acquired taste, you only need one drink per sitting. Any more and you will discover you speak Sicilian.

White Sambuca.
I was introduced to it while visiting my little sister who was doing a year's study abroad in Florence Italy. Never had it before but couldn't get enough of that licorice flavor. I understand Florence is a Renaissance city filed with beauty and grace. I'll take lil sis's word for it, but that's not how I rememberer it (what little I do remember). The headache that would not go away regardless of how many liters of Pelligreno I drank on the train back to Germany. I have never been that dehydrated in my life! But, it does bring back fond memories.
White ...
It will turn milky with ice (like Ouzo). Don't forget the coffee beans in the bottom. Tastes best with fresh grilled goat.
What CSB said, except the goat part...
My cousin loves it so much he once named one of his Husky's Sambuca. :D

The coffee bean thing is how my dad(Sicilian) would drink his expresso with black sambuca....... He told me it was an Italian tradition ,however he never chewed them up.............. ;)

White, with the beans on ice or with a good black cofee.
I prefer the black stuff...that said, when I was stationed in Vicenza, you had to be careful purchasing the stuff...some of it had poppy seeds or something like that in the mix and it would produce a false positive urinalysis...speaking as the SDO who got to retest the Chaplain after a dinner with our partnership unit...

Sambuca with moscas (flies) was popular in Italy when I was there.
IIRC, they lit the Sambuca, you huffed out the flames and crunched the coffee beans in your teeth.
Nothing like being drunk and caffeinated at the same time. Kind of like Vodka and Red Bull.

Indeed Chef longrange Sir! :)
Sambuca can be lit a fire while topping any good espresso, and the taste is un-forgettable.;)

I like both, but most of the bars around here usually only sell the white. The three coffee beans in the shot are a must!;)

My father as well.:lifter
Ahh Sicilians.... we really did take the best members from everyone's team.
...and now look at us. We're stacked.
Always good to be in the company of other countrymen. Hopefully I get to visit one day. Supposedly, I still have cousins in Messina.
My mom actually manages to make some Sambuca every now and then, although she prefers making Grand Mariner from the local citrus.

Not Sicilian, just like Sambuca, have a bottle of both in the cabinet, but I have to get Black from up north unless someone has a source here at Bragg.
