I remember the posting here about the Oregon RB that was suspended for the season for punching a Boise State player in the face after their game. As of today the news is that the coach will be allowing Blount back onto the team to finish the season. Anyone else find this a little odd coming after they take out USC and might have a chance at the title? I'm pretty upset, it seems as if their coach is sending the wrong message to players. Anyone else find this kind of fishy?
It looks kind of strict compared to the Florida player who was suspended a whole 1/2 game for gouging a players eyes. The Oregon coach probably saw the 1/2 game suspension and thought he was too tough.
I think the original penalty imposed on Blount was appropriate. However, after watching the Oregon QB and that Freshman running back James pinball through a talented USC defense, it would appear they have found a better replacement. I don't think they should bring him back, but if they do the motive is depth, James is going to be a star IMHO.

I think they were talking about bringing him back awhile ago. He had some requirements to meet before being reinstated. I say if he's getting a free ride through college, make him earn it. Make him practice and show that he's learned his lesson.
Not that anyone cares, but Blount's cousin is an SF NCO in my company. I had to deal with the constant ribbing after last year's Civil War (Oregon and Oregon State) when Blount ran all over my Oregon State's defense.

Blount has been participating, by his own choice, in rigorous multi level programs at the duck university to see if we would again be eligible to play college football. Miss one step or mark and he's gone. Oregon coach is not making the call by himself, the PAC 10 Commissioner has the final say.
I have local news and people close to the team. If what I'm hearing is true, I believe in Blount.
Seen harder punches than that thrown in the dorms when I was in school. Maybe fighting doesn't bother me enough.

Silentxray,
Understand your thinking. Blounts potential track to return to college ball was laid out a long time ago and is overseen by people way above the Oregon athletic program.
No player in the Oregon football program wants to go thru what Blount has done to possibly return to the team.
Yes, I like football.
Yes, I thought Blount should have been taken aside and shot for what he did in Boise.
After further review and discussions with "crashburnrepeat" (member here and former Bill's offensive lineman and fly fishing friend of mine) I looked at things different. Blounts actions after the Boise game and what he has so far accomplished in school and in serious counseling have changed my mind.
I DO NOT believe in winning at all costs. Yes it's nice to win but I can live with losing too. I'm Duck fan, we've done plenty of losing and the sun still rises the next morning and there are still real problems in this world to be worked on.
Bottom line is I'm pulling for Blount and not just for Oregon football.
Edited to add: I haven't heard anything about Blount being reinstated yet. Here is what the coach says: http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/4803/oregon-still-hasnt-sent-blount-proposal-to-pac-10-office

All valid points, ESPN didn't do a very good job explaining the situation so I was kind of in the dark. From what I heard it was basically up to the coach, I can't see them bringing him back as the #1 back anyways. When and If he comes back he'll probably be special teams, and a short down back because of his size. From what I gathered it was just kind of suspicious. If he's been working and being a good little boy then I can see allowing him back on the team as we are all humans and sometimes emotions can get the best of us.
James is the future of that team, bringing Blount back ahead of him on the depth roster could hurt him and I know the coach has to realize that. Like I said to me (a person with just news information) it looked fishy after beating the #5 team in the nation. After reading some of the posts here I understand better and agree if a player regrets his mistake, has done what is needed to fix it, and shows that he will not screw up again bring him on back!

The leopard cannot change his spots.
IMHO, Blount is a thug who will go bad again, given an opportunity.
Watch him.
