I am writing a book right now. The guys have just HALOed in.

My question, and I'm sure it's not opsec, is this:

After landing on a live op, do you pack the chutes with you, or bury them?

Cheers guys.

That would totally depend upon the mission.

And whether or not I was going to pay for them after the mission...;)

If you don't mind me asking- how far in are you on the book?

RIGHT! Cache. If they're US SF, you can have the Medic cut them up to make bandages and panties for the local ladies and the Charlie can use the cord for booby traps.

When in doubt, do your METT-T analysis.

Long as I don't have to dig the holes, it is fine.

Let's see, how long will it take to dig 12 or so Aviator's Kit Bag sized holes with the three folding e-tools that the team brought?

Might be about the same amount of time as to dig 12 shallow graves.

You are not likely to hump the 55 lbs. each MC-4 will add to your combat load as well.

My recommendation would be a link-up with an auxillary member who will either have the hole(s) dug and waiting, take them to a body of water for disposal, or haul them all off for caching. Obviously, each of these techniques present their own problems.

NDD- Not if the book's written backwards! Unconventional writing for unconventional warfare, afterall... :)

Short hijack- do you by any chance know what happened to the Red Hand anti-terror (terror) group in Algeria? Did they fold or withdraw when Algeria gained its independence, or did they keep trying?

Thanks,

Solid

NO HIJACKING! We're trying to write a book here! Go to the Terrorism Forum and make a new thread.

Since you are writing a book, let me give you to scenarios other than just hitting the ground at a run and leaving them.

1. In the event there is a counterpart reception party, turn the chutes over to them to dispose of, or:

2. Recover into the kit bag and stash - casche them. The bags are (or were) sage green and can be pretty easily camouflaged.
The are many other methods of disposal, serious and humorous.

NDD is right- I'm up to infil. They're Kiwis, going after a drug lab in Indonesia. Not sure if it's SAS or recon platoon that's at infil yet. I do know the basic plotline though, in case anyones wondering after that last sentence :p

Thanks for all the relies guys!

You may want to think about HAHO instead of HALO for your "mission."

I like the badages and panties idea. On second thought, forget the badages. :D

May I ask why?

You have other things to worry about depending on your jump altitude. Unless you are going to make some neat gongs to go along with the panties idea you also need to dispose of your 02 rigs.

That's a good point.

I'll go back and think about it.

What platform they going to use, a military or civilian A/C? They dropping into a remote or populated area? If a remote area, how many A/C fly over that area daily? Weekly? How far they going to walk? Just some ideas.

I get it now. I'll work it out accordingly.

Cheers TS.
