The U.S. has been one of about a dozen countries that bar entry to travelers based on their HIV status. Obama said it will be lifted just after the new year, after a waiting period of about 60 days.

"If we want to be a global leader in combatting HIV/AIDS, we need to act like it," Obama said

So we demonstrate our leadership in fighting the spread of a disease, by removing an obstacle to its spread?

Obama said lifting the ban "is a step that will save lives" by encouraging people to get tested and to get treatment.

Anyone seeking entry needs to provide evidence of a medical examination and vaccinations (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=eb1f3591ec04d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCR D&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1 RCRD). Currently, that requires them to get tested for HIV / AIDS. Once the HIV restriction is lifted, won't that reduce the incentive to get tested?

Well, that will be a big boon to the American taxpaying public.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free oh yeah and your HIV positive people too.

Hey, I got a better idea. Only let people that are HIV positve move here. Better yet they can not be able to read or write, and have no job skills on top of thier illness.

That guy is a real moron.

Oh, we already let them in.

They are called Haitians.

We were sent to guard the Haitians at Gitmo in the early 90's. They were living on a runway and refused to use the port-a-johns that were set up for them.

Instead, every family would share a pot or bucket in their tent, and then empty it onto the ground outside. They couldn't seem to grasp that the 'ground' outside their tent was concrete.

Fortunately, I spent most of my time on the perimeter. Some of our guys were sent inside the leprosy camp.

Gee, wasn't it HIV/AIDS infected people coming into the U.S.A. that brought it into our house to begin with????

I may be confused, but wasn't it infected people coming in from Mexico how we came to the current H1N1 virus taking over the country?

Just last year there was a young man who boarded a plane fraudulently in Europe, exposing dozens of people to TB in his effort to come back here sick not caring that he would expose thousands.

Just how is lifting the ban 'acting like we are a global leader in combatting AIDS'??? And if it is how it spread here to begin with, how will bringing even MORE infected people here with it going to "save lives"???

Maybe he's trying to win friends (From where, I don't know.) because so many of his newer ones are bailing as time goes by.
