View Full Version : Wyoming Honors Special Forces
A friend of mine alerted me to this new tradition at the University of Wyoming.
Here's a link with details: http://www.wyomingnews.com/articles/2009/10/14/sports/20sports_10-14-09.txt
Won't be able to get to the game this weekend, but I always watch the games when they are televised.
That's a nice feel-good article,, Thanks..

This connection is not as great a reach as one might think - GEN Schoomaker played football at U of Wyoming.

Every University should take notice and do something along those lines. IMHO, something like that should have been done a long time ago.
For that...GO COWBOYS!
The difference between a Wyoming winter and my second divorce is,...

Its good to see this honor bestowed upon those who give so much to our Nation.
I was looking at the comments below the article and someone posted the following, "Rumor has it that President Obama will be watching the game which inturn could lead to him being nominated for the Heisman Trophy."
Now that is funny.:D

Great post!
VMI could use a douse of this. Several Commandants, and at least one academic Dean have been QP's. There are many Alumni who have served as Special Forces soldiers. As a foundation member, I'll knock on a few doors. Political winds are blowing a gale @ VMI right now. No better time to hoist the SF flag @ VMI, IMHO.

SFA Chapters are always looking for something new to do, or do it different. Let's reach out to the SFA's nearest the bigger schools, then work down from there.

I like the idea!
Looking at the map, it looks like LIII or LXVIII would be the likely chapters. I'll contact both and see where this goes. Other ideas are welcomed!
This will probably be at the cost of my at large membership status, finally have to join a chapter.
Thanks WD!

Someone who knows how to contact Wyoming's football coach should get him to start reading here so he knows what he has invoked.
Someone who knows how to contact Wyoming's football coach should get him to start reading here so he knows what he has invoked. As a UW alum, I'd appreciate it if he spends a little more time reading about TCU...that said, I'll see if I can get a heads up to him...
That said, dchris18@uwyo.edu if you are inclined to send a shout out...
I've sent him the link...of course, it's not like we're exactly buds...

I'll be attending the UW/BYU game on the 7th. I'll ask those with me their ideas as well.

I'll make that happen.

Personally, I'd be opposed to "diluting" the respect and honor shown by the UW football program by encouraging others to adopt the same type of attitude - no matter how much I'd love to see SF "respected".
The actions of the UW football coaching staff were unrehearsed, unsought, and - imho - totally honest. Anyone from this point forward who adopts the "SF theme" will fall short of that. As a longtime "Sun Devil" and remembering games against UW - and their first appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, way back when - it is a proud program. I am honored by their decision to call their special teams "SF".
I say - let them stand alone - as SF stands alone. One is enough. From this day forward, the University of Wyoming's football program will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope it will hold the same in yours...

Zonie,
IMHO, you are spot on!!
VMI prepares folks for most all services. It would be nice to see insignia on jerseys as the USMA does. There a lot of choices.
Thanks Zonie!

Coach C responded to my email with a "Thank you, Sir!". From my contact with some of the UW boosters (until Tuesday of last week, I was employed in Laramie), Coach C is the real deal and the folks in Poke country have a lot of hope based on the character of the man...
With BYU and TCU left on the schedule, the fact that he took the time to answer my email speaks volumes to me about the man.

One more UW alumni here!!! I was at the game on Saturday and it was awesome to see you all represented there.
Too bad it was one of the most boring games I have ever been to, and UW wound up losing. My brother wanted to know if I was going to support my alma mater or my paycheck, and that I couldn't support both. My AF brethern were pretty unhappy with my choice of attire for the game!!

Well done, both of you.
