I have up to date HAPS training till 2014 because my current AF career field gets HALO... Now that I am going Army will this training transfer over? Will it help me to get on a jump team at all?

Your chamber card will. But you'll still have to get a stamped (BN, Group or SWC Surgeon) class II flight medical.

As for helping you get on a MFF team? No, unless you're already MFF qualified.

i have a stamped class 3 physical that is up to date from the AF, it has stamped on it that it is good for HALO, and CDQC, and airborne... the people at MEPS told me it was useless...

Won't matter unless you make it all the way through the pipeline and on to a team.

All teams are jump qualified, BTW.

The real question is whether you are going to show up in your AF green beret.

that is true by the time i finish training, if i made it all the way through, my current physical would be expired anyways. I think they are only good for 3 years anyways. I'm just asking because I don't want to get rid of things that possibly could help me out in the future. thanks for the help guys...

Haps Qual is good for 5 yrs, Halo Physical is good for 2 yrs........

Will this help you get to a HALO TM, Likely not, but it may help to mention when you get to group and are signing into your Bn/Company, should you make it that far.

Having good personal skills will also help.........

For attendance of the Basic MFF Course, the HALO Physical is only valid for two years (school house requirement). The HALO Physical is actually good for five years, along with the HAPS certification.

The clowns at the MEPS station are boneheads. Save your physical, as you may need it some day, if for nothing else then a historical record for a VA claim.

The important piece here is your HAPS certification. Once you get to a team, ensure that your MFF packet is up to date and ready to rock and roll. Get your physical started the day after you inprocess the company. This ensures that you have a Physical, DA 4186(Upslip), and a valid HAPS card and can go on short notice to a MFF class. There are slots that suddenly appear on a friday afternoon with a start date of monday the following week, and a mad scramble as to who can fill the slot. Having your shit in order puts you at the top of the food chain even though you're the FNG.

All teams are Static Line jump qualified, only one team per company is MFF. You have to earn the right to be on the specialty teams.

Personnaly, your first team should be a ruck team. Learn the basics, and then after about 2-3 yrs start expanding your knowledge base. But that's just my humble opinion.

Concur - sounds as if you're tyring to put the canopy before the harness here - your W8 qualification will be the least of your worries for awhile and will do you no good if you don't get through the 18 program first.

Thanks for the advice guys, ill keep all of my stuff in order just in case. i am focused on making it through all my training first, but i am also thinking about a plan for if i do make it. im a very goal oriented person. MFF is a longterm goal, getting my beret is a shorter long term goal SFAS shorter term goal, SOPC short term goal. this is how my brain works...

Just as a point of reference on past experience and ODA assignments, one of my fellow team leaders had been on the USMA skydiving team for 4 years. Had several thousand freefall jumps, experience in RW, landing accuracy, the works. Sure, it wasn't MFF, but it was a lot of time under canopy. When he signed into Group, the battalion commander welcomed him, congratulated him on his assignment to the bn combat dive team, and noted the next pre-SCUBA would be starting in a month or so.
