35 years ago on July 19th, Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo Kopechne.

"On July 18, 1969, at approximately 11:15 P.M. in Chappaquiddick, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, I was driving my car on Main Street on my way to get the ferry back to Edgartown. I was unfamiliar with the road and turned right onto Dike Bridge, instead of bearing hard left on Main Street. After proceeding for approximately one-half mile on Dike Road, I descended a hill and came across a narrow bridge. There was one passenger with me, one Miss Mary _____, a former secretary of my brother Sen. Robert Kennedy. The car turned over and sank into the water and landed with the roof resting on the bottom.
I attempted to open the door and the window of the car but have no recollection of how I got out of the car. I came to the surface and then repeatedly dove down to the car in an attempt to see if the passenger was still in the car. I was unsuccessful in the attempt. I was exhausted and in a state of shock.
I recall walking back to where my friends were eating. There was a car parked in the front of the cottage and I climbed into the back seat. I then asked for someone to bring me back to Edgartown. I remember walking around for a period and then going back to my hotel room. When I fully realized what had happened this morning, I immediately contacted the police."

"this morning" ?????

People should just carry signs with her name, nothing else, wherever he is present. It's way past time for him to be hounded into hell.

You would have thought that the amount of time this clown spent diving to the bottom of martini glasses to suck pimentos out of olives he would have had no problem loitering on the bottom of the inlet to get MaryJo free.

I want the date engraved on a new knife.

Anyone know where I can get that done?

The Kennedys have a long history of feeling that they are above the law, AFAIK, beginning with Joe during Prohibition.

Let us imagine that GWB had appointed his brother Jeb to a high position, say, Attorney General.

What do you think the Dems would have said.

Double standards for the haves, versus the have nots. Some animals truly are more equal than others, and Teddy is corrupt, a coward, and a drunk. To call him a pig would denigrate the porcine species.

Just a personal opinion.

I hate Teddy

I wonder if he really had to swim or did his fat just carry him to the surface.

NousDefionsDoc: I'm sorry.

Gypsy: I can't think of something witty to respond to that except he sucks.

From an E-Mail I received a few weeks ago:

“It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marine Corps to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.”

Sometimes you just wish that someone way-back-when had decided to use contraception...

The Kennedys also used their power to cover up the rape and murder of one of their neighbours in Greenwhich, CN IIRC...

I am surprised, actually, more like stunned, that American citizens return this fine servant of the people to Congress as their senior elected representative every year.

He makes Kerry look like a paragon of virtue.

Are these two really the best that the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts can find and send to the Senate to represent them?

Personally, I wouldn't trust either of these gentlemen to pick up my refuse from the curb in front of my house twice a week and their actions over the past 30 plus years have nothing to change my opinion.

Just my .02, YMMV.

It must be a New England thing. Perhaps too much mercury in the shellfish, overdosing on Maple Syrup, walking around in the winter without a hat on, or perhaps the proximity of the Phrench in Canada. Vermont is no better. They send the only socialist in the frigging congress back year after year as their only representative in the House. Then we have Jeffords who thinks he is an independent but is not really sure which aligns him with the flip flop gene of Kerry and finally Leahy who not only is an idiot but can claim the death of an American operative in the 87 time frame when he leaked information as a member of the intelligence committee whose pre-requisite for selection is obviously not intelligence.

Think of it as trying to run against Castro or Saddam

Sure you can try and give it a go but all the money is against you, all the papers, all the TV stations, every single union etc

Republicans can barely get elected to the state Senate let alone the US one

I for one can't wait for next week's love fest - the convention. Road closures, train closures, protests from cops and anarchists - it ought to be quite the show :)

He was inducted into the "American Academy of Arts and Sciences" the same day that Nancy was, and he was scheduled to dine with us afterward (exclusive dinner by invitation only). I was all set to engage him in discourse much the same way as I spoke with Pres Clinton in the Oval Office, Kennedy was called away at the last minute (don't know why), and we dined with Daniel Schorr instead:

New York is no better with Maddam Clit-ton in the area now. Hence the reason I no longer live in NY, nor have any desire to return. Ever.
