It will be a great match up whoever makes it to the WS, but like the sun raising, the wind blowin and the waves turning...its all Yankees
And Yes, I'll take that bet 'O, should my dream matchup - Phil’s vs Yanks happen, but to make it palpable to your lack of SA in this lane...Cheese stakes at the NW corner of 42nd & Market. Trust me, there are no better cheese steaks in Philly; and here’s the kicker, no sign and no habla english...it’s so Philadelphia, even the native speakers speak a different dialect of their native language.

I read this somewhere I think. Or heard it. Or wanted to.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish Yankees and the tyranny of evil men in the American League. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the Rockies through the valley of the Playoffs. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers by the use of the Designated Hitter. And you will know I am the Fan when I lay my vengeance upon you.
I might have got one or two words wrong.
Sam L does it so much better, and with a NY accent...thank you very much

Sorry to all you Yankee fans out there, but the $70 million Twins have won 17 of their last 21 and are on their way to a stunning defeat of the $210 million Yankees. The AL MVP is going to roll into the Bronx today and....
who am I kidding, the Twins are 0-7 against the Pinstripers this year. It was a fun run.
Trapline, glad you did the math, but as I watch the series I'll think of...actually, of the Yankees winning; would you suggest that I have a ice cold beer in my hand as I sit in section 118 seat 2 asile B, or should I just keep asking the Twins 1st base coach whats that lump in his back pocket? Do you think its his pocket of big ideas, or what? Got google earth; I'll wave.......

My guess would be a sap and flex cuffs in case Mauer tries to make a break for the Yankee dugout. Enjoy that ice cold beer, I will be looking for you as I dab my eyes with my homer hanky.:D

That too, but I meant when one team makes an error, the other team capitalizes on it. It's happened so many times like that, you can see it coming. Not just in baseball but all sports.
The Yankees are notorious for capitalizing on errors.
BTW, the Dodgers won 26 times on the last at bat this season, so they're no strangers to this.
I grew up in NY. Always been a Yankees fan. We had season tickets during the Reggie Jackson/Billy Martin era. But I actually felt sorry for the Twins last night. That ninth inning was painful to watch.
I want to see the Dodgers and yanks. Good to see Joe Torre return to Yankee Stadium.

.So it's genetic? Can't blame you for that.:D
What I find interesting to watch. If the Yanks are behind, or only up by one point. They always seemed relaxed and joking in their Dugout. When they show the other Teams Dugout. The atmosphere seems to be filled with stress. It is very reminiscent of the 1998 Yankees Team. Considered one of the best Teams to ever take the field.
Well, that Rockies aren't going to be making it to the big show this year. Just LOST to the Phillies.

Gusty winds blowing, fair weather postponed until 25 December 2009.
A blue bandwagon has crashed in the HOV lane on the southbound 405 near Skirball. A replacement purple bandwagon is en route to pick up passengers. ETA is 16 February 2010.
Those late inning rallies had me nervous--I was concerned that I was going to miss Modern Family and Cougar Town.
(I kid. I kid. No way I'd miss those two shows for a Phillies game.)

Every once in a while the Phills will make a play like that...trying to do too much. I would think that is out of their system now. How about Gay-Rod taking a hat trick??? But like you intimated above....long series. Wonder if Lee can pitch again tonight???

What is the deal with the umpires in this year's playoffs?
Bud Selig addressed some of the earlier controversial calls last night on Letterman and yet tonight it is more of the same.
The double play by Philly was a bad call and it was executed poorly, whereas the Jeeter inspired DP that we witnessed yesterday was elevated playmaking, if he had pissed on the base first, it would have been considered an Art form.

Would use of instant replay to validate calls hurt or help MLB?
I think it would help; but not for balls and strikes, games would take forever. You know that calls are reviewed for training if nothing else. So, today we have umpires out there who know they have made bad calls, it happens. I believe they try to learn from their mistakes, as any pro would, to do better next time. I think they do the best they can. Instant replay for calls, other than balls and strikes, would help MLB, IMMHO.

Could not agree more. No reason not to have instant replay. Balls and strikes would be impossible. The question to ask is: "Would you rather have a fast bad call or get the call right and take an extra minute?"

They already have it for questionable Home Runs, using it for close calls at bases and home plate, I'm not really in favor of it.
In some ways, human (umpire) error is part of the game. Besides, "Kill the re-play guy !!!!", just doesn't have the same "Pzazz". :D

Bite your Tongue.
Next you'll want to bring back fake grass; build more in-door stadiums.
They are Umpires not referees. If a ball park is a cathedral then the Umpire is the Pope. Infallible, answerable only to God. The Umpire makes the call in the split-second of the play. And the game goes on. Don't like it? Complain, kick some dirt, Get ejected. The game goes forward never back.
MOO, video replay would not fit into the spirit of baseball.
I do wish that umpires would avail themselves to the 'replay' resources that are available to all officiating crews--the views of other members of that team.
We see this best practice in motion when home plate umpires point to the guys on first or third to appeal checked swings. Why not consistently take this practice a step further (as some veteran umpires and officials in other sports already do) by huddling up, admitting you didn't see the play, and asking the rest of the crew for help.
(This approach has been advocated by folks like the late Francis "Chick" Hearn, Vin Scully, and John Madden.)
The way this year's baseball playoffs are going, the attention to detail offered by WWE referees would be an improvement. (And please spare me all the talk about wrestling being 'fake.' Next thing you know, there'll be more chatter about their not being a Great Pumpkin, or a Magical Collagen Trout Lip Fairy. :p)

Check swings are completely different. The home Plate Umpire (may peace be upon him) -- in that astronomically rare instance -- is not in a position to see if the bat broke the plane by a mere fraction of an inch before being pulled back by a professional capable of stopping a bat arcing, slightly more then one-hundred degrees or over fourteen feet -- at a speed of one-hundred seventeen miles an hour in order to hit a ninty-seven mile an hour fastball (which, BTW, requires a decision to swing in less then 1/3 of a second! Thus, we mere mortals, can only imagine the time limitations -- probably measured in negative increments -- involved in deciding and effecting a check-swing). And why can't He see it? Because He can't move to a better spot. And that is why (and only why) the Umpire (peace be upon him) dains to request the advice of the other omnipotent Umpires (peace be upon them) who can, and do, position themselves for a better point of view (just in case the astronomically rare instance occurs by the grace and will of God) .
"Why not huddle up, admit they didn't see the play, and ask the rest of the crew for help." Why not? It would be easier to explain how to return to the home planet. But, I'll try.
First, huddling is not something that should happen in baseball. That is for another sport and they do it all the time and what a waste of time that is!
Second, Admit what? God-given Infallibility?
Third, Didn't see the play, of course they saw the play. They are all-seeing, all-knowing and incapable of error. Infallible. (Hello, aren't you listening?)
Fourth The only thing the other Umpires (peace be upon them) will say is "It's your call, make it."
Advocates like John Madden? Wasn't he a football coach? Next he'll be drawing lines and X's all over the damn screen. Please. He should stick to his knitting.
As for the pink, watch it, we're talking baseball. :D (This reply was run past the Little Dude. The only thing confusing to him was that this has to be explained.:p)
Guys you all have too much time on your hands...next thing you'll be forgettin what its about and be talkin just 'bout ur balls...teryin ta remember your last time ya didnt strike out...

Congratulations Yankees and Yankee fans. Same to the Phillies. A good Series.
Report dates to Spring Training are not set for most teams. The Rays have their first work out 20 Feb, Brewers on the 22nd (Pitchers and Catchers report the day before).
Until then, I'm with Roger Hornsby . . .
“People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
